Shutters? Or a cheaper alternative? Help!

Hello,
We have moved into an edwardian style house and our lounge has a nice bay window. We originally wanted shutters as I love the look of them but they are expensive and while we can afford them I am not sure if they will block out a lot of light and the money may be better spent elsewhere. I do love them but they are v popular and I also wonder if they'll go out of fashion a bit?
Part of me thinks maybe we should go for nice wooden blinds instead with a thick ribbon as these have a similar effect but are cheaper and can be pulled up out the way to let light in.
Anyone with shutters who would recommend go for it- worth the price, love them? Or anyone else found a better alternative?
I don't fancy curtains we had similar in the last house and I want a change!
Thanks!

We’ve got a big Victorian bay and just had shutters installed. For us definitely worth the money. Before we had blinds and while they were ok the shutters work so much better us! We got the cafe style so we can have the top half completely open and get loads of light in and the bottom half shut so a bit more privacy

We had shutters in our Victorian hours since we moved in 15 years. I love them and they are definitely worth the cost. We are very terraced and don't have much of a front garden so they are brilliant for angling nosy passers buy out but letting in enough light leaving the top open.

Much more practical than slatted blinds.

Thats interesting @idontlikealdi why more practical? I'd have thought with blinds you could angle them for light but privacy but also get rid of them completely when you pull them up unlike shutters?
You're both swaying me more onto team shutter though...

I love my shutters too. They look good and are so practical. We have tier on tier style - sometimes when I am working the sun is reflected into my eyes from a car outside, and I can adjust just one section and not lose all the rest of the light. Also early evening when the lights first go on I just close the bottom shutters for privacy without feeling completely enclosed. They were expensive and I was tempted to save money and get blinds, but so glad I didn't now Smile

Our old house had original shutters but we never used them. Curtains are cosier I think.

I love our shutters, great choice to control light and privacy. I can highly recommend shutterlab for a professional yet affordable service www.facebook.com/ShutterLabUK/

Another vote for shutters from me! I had mine installed in November and I absolutely love them. Do not regret the cost of them Smile
Love blocking out nosy neighbours and passers by but letting the sunlight in. And much easier to clean than blinds!!

Also they're probably one of the main reasons why I won't move from this house any time soon 😋😋
