Garden furniture stuck in Birmingham 'due to Brexit'

I ordered something online via Amazon (a small table) and it seems it came from Germany. I ordered it a month ago and got a message from Amazon that it's delayed. I contacted the seller and they said 'due to Brexit' it's stuck at customs.

The online update says it shipped end of March, but arrived at a 'carrier facility' and been at Oldbury since 6th April. The seller said they are trying to get more information. The Amazon message says 'It may be lost, but may still arrive.' Confused

Should I give up and ask for a refund? Does it seem likely that it's stuck in Oldbury due to Brexit? What's in Oldbury?

Confused.com and if anyone can shed light on this please do Smile.

Hmm okay just asked Google and found this. Does this mean my seller is supposed to pay something and hasn't?

Have you asked Amazon's customer services for help?

Sorry I know this is not the most thrilling topic, but am wondering if this is happening to others.

Yes, they just say the same thing above and that I can ask for a refund if I want. But I've waited a month already, and garden furniture seems hard to get of at the moment. So I feel like I'm better off waiting for this one to arrive.

I'm just wondering if it ever will arrive due to this Brexity impasse. I wonder if they're charging the seller something that the seller is refusing to pay. Hmm And whether this is going to be a common thing now with goods from Europe!

Professionally I've seen a lot of this recently... it seems a decent handful of companies weren't prepared for the new charges involved in sending things to the UK, and so they're ending up in warehouses while the companies argue it out.

There's no way of knowing if/when it'll be released, though... it'd depend on when the seller pays the fee. At some point, the goods will either be returned or considered abandoned, and it's unlikely that DPD or any other carrier will deliver them without the appropriate fee... So the seller really is going to be the only person who can tell you.

I wouldn't give up - chase DPD, if anyone can tell you why your garden furniture is stuck in their warehouse (and more importantly, how it can be released) it will be them.

Thanks, this is very helpful. I'll email them again - and maybe ask (diplomatically) if they're going to cough up on this customs charge or what Smile.

What a pain for small businesses (and customers). I guess there's too much news going on at the moment for this to be noticed.

@misscockerspaniel I suppose I could try that too. Not sure I fancy my chances.
