Spider on the bed, wwyd?

We were just getting into bed when a spider ran across, DH flicked the duvet and it disappeared but I didn't see where it ended up. He is not really bothered by spiders and was tired so went to sleep but I got back up. I just don't like the idea of it scuttling around the bed. I will probably go back up a bit later, maybe. Would it bother you or are you fine with our 8 legged friends.

I had one run across my arm, over my pillow and down between the headboard and mattress. No amount of pleading would convince DH he had to tear the bedroom apart. Thankfully I never saw it again.

The worst was a hotel room at a forest hot springs resort facing a lake. It was hot and we left the balcony door open with a screen while we went to dinner. The screen was ill-fitting. When we returned there were literally dozens of spiders in the room. I demanded a new room. They said they were full and it was "part of the X resort experience." I was not impressed. They ending up sending a guy with a vacuum thing on his back to suck them up. I did not sleep a wink.

Burn the house down OP.

@daisyjgrey

Obviously I meant buy a new house. The stress of the hypothetical situation made my typing off kilter.
@daisyjgrey Grin

Should be ok OP if it's off the bed now. I'd feel same as you.

Frownette · 22/04/2021 00:14

@LoveFall that's really surreal, and you were only gone for a matter of hours? Did it happen again?

seensome · 22/04/2021 00:37

When I was living at home, teen years I woke up one morning with two fang marks on my neck, when my mother was making my bed she found a big black house spider under my pillow, I don't trust them.

LangClegsInSpace · 22/04/2021 00:42

What an incredible thing to happen

LoveFall · 22/04/2021 01:03

Yes, only gone a couple of hours. Heart of a temperate rainforest though. It was surreal. We only stayed one night.

That is just horrifying!
Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 22/04/2021 02:00

I have those spiders that eat other spiders in my flat, not in my bedroom thank fuck. If one was on my duvet, it would be pinged across the room, closely followed by my cat, who sleeps next to me. She would then play with it and eat it. I had a false widow hanging out on my kitchen window for 2 years. She kept the flies down.
My gran lived in a really old house that was prone to being spider heaven, she got used to them trundling across her face!

merrymelody · 22/04/2021 02:25

My DD was bitten twice on her face while sleeping over at her father's. Horrible.

Etsylicious · 22/04/2021 02:59

Why the f have I just read this at 3am, lying in the dark 😭

Onesailwait · 22/04/2021 03:06

Probably just do a quick scan of the area & go to bed. We had a black widows living under the facing around our back door. We found a dead one. Had to put it in a little Tupperware box & a professor from the local university came & collected it. I was fascinated & horrified at the same time.

MrsSmith2020 · 22/04/2021 03:39

@Etsylicious same!! I'm now wide awake, itching and worried about a non existent (I hope!) tarantula under my pillow

OP burn it down

picknmix1984 · 22/04/2021 03:45

Can't believe I've read this thread. That's me awake for the night now. I'd have to vacate rooms or hotel for the night. I'd probably have a big row about him not being sensitive to my phobia!

spikyplants2021 · 22/04/2021 03:59

I'd probably suffocate myself under the bedcovers.

Anne1958 · 22/04/2021 04:02

It wouldn’t bother me at all.

Wheesplat · 22/04/2021 06:36

Did anyone else have a really evil drama teacher at school that made them lie down and pretend a tarantula was crawling up their body?

Cowgran · 22/04/2021 09:13

Depends what type of spider. Daddy long legs, no worries. Red-back, white-tail or huntsman, or one of the many other lovely big fat things we have in Australia and no chance.

Maggiesfarm · 22/04/2021 10:23

Move to another house.

MedusasBadHairDay · 22/04/2021 10:26

@GlutenFreeGingerCake

About 5cm including legs, a fast one not one of those skinny long legged ones.
If it was one of the long legged ones I could probably sleep, as those tend to keep their distance anyway, so probably wouldn't return to the bed after being thrown off it. They tend to stick to corners, out of the way.

The fast ones though? I'd be sleeping in another room, and by sleeping I mean lying awake and worrying.

Livpool · 22/04/2021 10:36

I am terrified of spiders so would sleep elsewhere and get DH to tear the room apart the next day!

Ugh this has given me the willies shudder

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 22/04/2021 10:39

This happened the other week. DP was getting a spider from the ceiling (I couldn’t reach) and it jumped out the side of the glass... couldn’t see it I was convinced it was on the bed. I did manage to fall asleep but was itchy all night, never saw it again though. We did find an absolute WHOPPER a week later and DP joked it was the small one grown up and out for revenge now. I wasn’t impressed but it just got flung out the window Grin

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 22/04/2021 10:39

The thing with spiders is even if you sleep in another room it could easily wander in to that room Grin there is no escape.

Fair point, definitely flamethrower time then.
