I have what I “think” is discoid eczema esp on my legs - treating with hydrocortisone but dr only doing phone appointments.

Do these look infected..? I can email pics through to the drs for a phone appointment

My son has discoid eczema and looks like this, but without the scabbing and the yellow bits. I'd email the pics to the doc or maybe show a pharmasist. What creams are you using? We just switched to oat cetraben and it's working well for ds

I’m using a 5% urea one and hydrocortisone

Yes it looks infected to me. I bet it’s sore as hell. It doesn’t look discoid to me as mine was literally perfect circles but I don’t think the distinction really matters!

Have you got any savlon or similar to soothe it before you can get a doctor to call you back? I use to suffer so badly with eczema - luckily I’ve not had a serious flare up in a decade or more, but I use to wake in the night crying with oozing painful cracked and bleeding hands. It was awful.

What helped me (all in prescription) was

  • antibiotic cream. Might have been fucibet.
  • medihoney cream. It’s not medicated or anything but when your skin is irritated but not infected it’s the most soothing thing ever.
  • I can’t remember the name, but when it was really bad, I was given a medication-laced tape that I would strap round the worst areas and then cover with plasters so I couldn’t get it off in my sleep. It was the only thing that healed my skin at its worst, although you’re not supposed to cover it.

Good luck with the doc.

Oh I have some medihoney from a dressing my teenager had. I think I’ll get a phone appointment tomorrow

Hydrocortisone sounds very mild looking at those pics. Will doc give.you a stringer steroid ointment?

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 21/04/2021 20:36

I’m hoping..!!

You really need an antibiotic cream not stronger steroids. The yellow you see is likely pus. Stronger steroids won’t really do much in the short term, you need to clear that infection!

I get this type of eczema on my hands. The doctor has always told me to look out for a 'golden sheen'. That's how I know to call for antibiotics.

So in short, anything yellow ...doctor!

RockCrushesLizard · 22/04/2021 00:15

Do you have it anywhere else?
I ask because I had lower legs that looked like that with flea bites once - incredibly itchy in a red circle over a really wide area around the bite, and prone to infection.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 22/04/2021 07:42

It’s also on my bum but no-one wants pics of that....!
