I can't manage my garden any more & I can't afford a gardener. It's out of control, what can I do?

I shall nc after this. I have mental health issues which mean I just can't engage with my back garden for the time being any more. The edges are getting very overgrown (think about 12ft high). If I could I'd sell it but I know that'd be bad for the house. It's 36ft square. I can't afford any paid help at all. There's no side access either. I have no family & live alone. Has anyone got any bright ideas how I can manage this situation until I feel well enough to take on the continuous maintenance that's needed..

Our village has a ‘good neighbour’ scheme which matches local volunteers with residents who need a bit of help. Things like driving people to hospital appointments, doing shopping, dog walking and gardening. There are always more volunteers than people coming forward asking for help. It’s definitely worth making a few enquiries to see if there is a similar scheme near you.

Mine's like that. i was thinking of putting some wild flower bombs out and pretending I want it like that. Grin

I know several people who are on Facebook that have never had a passport so I'm sure there is a way around that.

Of course there is. Not everybody is asked to upload ID. So if they are not asked to give a passport that will be their 'way round' it.

Good neighbour scheme is a really good shout. In our neighbourhood it mainly is retired people who are desperate for something worthwhile to do!

GrumpyHoonMain · 20/04/2021 09:22

Facebook is launching it’s own payment platform and has been asking for ID since 2019

ImJustNotSure · 20/04/2021 09:27

Slightly against the grain here as there’s been some really good suggestions:

Do you own a pair of shears? I bought a new pair from B&Q for £20. I found cutting down weeds really satisfying- yeah they’ll grow back up but it’s an improvement from 12ft to 1ft.

Kaleidoscopecascade · 20/04/2021 09:29

What area do you live? Maybe someone on here might offer to help.

EverythingRuined · 20/04/2021 09:45

Have you a non identifying photo ?

I'd be tempted to use some weed killer...

eaglejulesk · 20/04/2021 10:16

Facebook does not do this

It certainly does. It did it to me.

I'm not doubting you, but is this a new thing? No-one I know has ever been asked for ID.

readingismycardio · 20/04/2021 10:23

Please ask for help, OP! No shame in it! There are plenty of people who are willing to help, no one will judge!

Mamamamasaurus · 20/04/2021 10:37

Are there any local services which help adults with learning difficulties (there's a name for them but I'm having a brain fart today), it would be a project for them? I second contacting the council, I know that there is a fund to help people with disabilities who can't maintain their garden? The PP who suggested veg growing has an awesome idea - I love it. Do you have a friend or family member who is on SM who could ask around on your behalf?

Pumperthepumper · 20/04/2021 10:39

What is it that needs done? A hedge trim and cutting the grass?

TeeBee · 20/04/2021 11:42

I wonder whether there is anyone looking for practice with laying slabs. You could offer up your space and then you'd have a nice (low maintenance) place to sit in the sun.

DShrute · 20/04/2021 12:01

Please reach out and ask for the help you need. People who can help will be happy to be able to do so.

local horticultural college might have trainees who can get stuck in for their grades.

There is an organisation called the good gym who run to peoples houses and do physical stuff to help out
