I bet you all know this already - I learnt something game changing in Sainsburys earlier!

Forgot my carriers/bags today so had to ask for more. The checkout lady was opening the carrier bags ready for me at a rate of knots - no finger licking involved! I asked her how she was so good at it and it turns out one edge of the carrier is slightly shorter than the other!

😯 This must be a fairly new innovation surely or have I been living in blissful ignorance all these years?!

Good to know as they drive me insane.

I worked in a different retailer up until earlier this year and we definitely didn't have that luxury, the company ordered increasingly cheap crap bags to the extent that you were afraid to put anything in them as they were like tissue paper Grin

You have been in blissful ignorance. Sorry OP if that is harsh.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 19/04/2021 14:15

I carry bags in the boot of the car and sometimes forget to take them in with me. I just put everything back in the trolley as it goes through the checkout and pack at the car. Have sometimes just driven home without packing it up and do it when I get there.

My ExH works in a supermarket and says if you pull the handles away from each other just slightly that also opens the bag too

@Puddington I usually shop at Tesco - is that who you mean?! I also usually remember my bags so haven't had an opportunity to check this out

Yes to pulling the handles away from each other, a useful tab slides up in many bags that can be grabbed and used to separate the sides.

It was a Spar, granted it was franchised by notoriously tight bastards though so quality may vary Grin I've noticed our local Co-Op actually has surprisingly decent quality bags, we usually remember our own bags as well so it's a point of interest when I get to use a shop's one!

It seems so strange to me now to remember the struggle with those thin plastic bags. Here in Ireland the supermarkets stopped using them a few years ago. It’s bag for life here or nothing.
