Suggestions for trousers for ds 4 tall but skinny

Boringnamechanging · 19/04/2021 09:08

Ds is 4.5 and has just done another massive spurt upwards, his 3-4 trousers are now comical length wise but still too big width wise. 4-5 even 5-6 are fine length wise but don't stay up.

Last years solution was girls leggings but I've noticed more and more comments in park/playground that he is wearing girls clothes (I don't care and I don't think he has noticed yet) but I don't want him to feel uncomfortable/picked on. He won't wear shorts unless it's boiling.

So suggestions please, he won't wear cord unless it's very soft and jeans he has also refused to try. He doesn't like tie waists as he is too independent and refuses help going to the toilet/afterwards. Bonus points for bright colour rather than grey/black/brown.

Next & Gap, even M&S used to be good for trousers with the adjusters in side at each side. Usually strong elastic with a button. You just adjust them and leave them. (No need to do them every time). I would have though most places would have them like that now.

Try LaRedoute’s jeggings. These are cord but soft so they are like leggings: www.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-350075557.aspx#searchkeyword=Treggings&shoppingtool=search

Whoops. Just seen those are out of stock, sorry. But search for their treggings - various colours, elasticated waists and are quite slim fitting.

The problem is online ordering so you can't check for the adjuster in the waistband. DS is the same and I'm resigned to ankle grazers until the shops reopen (Ireland it'll be a while yet)

Ralf Lauren (can get the cheaper in TKMax) are longer and slimmer than others from the high street. My DC have always been the same. It is bliss now that DS1 can fit into men’s as they do length and width fitting. At the mo he is 28” W 34” L. At the grand old age of 15 he finally looks like he is wearing his own clothes Grin

H&M joggers are fairly “skinny fit” round the waist. Also their girls jeggings look just like jeans except for the waistband, so might invite less comment in the playground. I have two very skinny, leggy children so I feel your pain.

Boringnamechanging · 19/04/2021 14:10

How soft are jeggings? Do they feel like leggings? Very tempted by the look of H&M girls ones

Trackie bottoms/joggers? Fold over a chunk of waistband and sew in place if necessary (have done this for both my boys).

Next and Tui skinny jeans work well in our house . If they’re too baggy look for super skinny . Tui seem to be very stretchy and soft .

GirlofInkandStars · 19/04/2021 14:17

Trying H&M in general might be good - they seem to fit taller and slimmer than any UK brands

MyCatHatesOtherCats · 19/04/2021 14:19

I also second Marks for adjustable waistbands and H&M for both adjustable waistbands and a general tall/slim fit. But in my experience you either go with a drawstring waist (joggers or jeans) or internal buttons to adjust (usually cords or chinos).

Mrsfrumble · 20/04/2021 10:17

Yes, the jeggings are very soft and stretchy, just like leggings. My DD swears by them!

KindergartenKop · 20/04/2021 11:54

Dungarees

I’ve not tried their boys stuff but Polarn O Pyret fits the bill for long and slim trousers. Lots of their leggings and trousers have an adjustable waist. They are expensive but really last. I used them for my girls when they were younger. They do come up very long though so check the size guides.

Next clothes are skinner than M&S.

CandyCaneLane0 · 20/04/2021 14:52

Would he be able to use toggles? I have to put them on my son's joggers as he's tall and skinny too but he's able to use the toggle by himself to loosen and tighten when going to the loo

Ooh that's a good idea, where did you get them from?

We have this problem with ours and often dress him in navy blue girls leggings!

Good options for "boys" clothes are M&S as they have little buttons inside the waistband which you can pull in to make them tighter.

Gap is often quite small fitting too.

JackieTheFart · 26/04/2021 13:48

I agree La Redoute are great for slimmer children.

LetsSplashMummy · 26/04/2021 13:52

The European brands like Vertbaudet and Mango are often skinnier than Uk brands and verbaudet in particular has different fittings, like "long and lean"

Wetcappuccino · 26/04/2021 13:57

H&M are good for adjustable waistband trousers. Also La Redoute.

Seainasive · 26/04/2021 14:01

Next ( on line only) do great Skinny Waist school trousers.

I have never had any luck with finding jogging bottoms without the comedy balloon bottom effect. Running tights are good but not very durable on small boys...

Tambora · 26/04/2021 14:06

Peacocks were always good for narrow stuff for my similarly slender long-legged dc. I'm not sure whether they are closing down now though.
