It's sunny, therefore the neighbour has dusted off their stereo.

I've posted before. Just want a little rant.

Now the weather is nice my horrible next door neighbours have Heart FM on from 8am until they go to bed. Full blast and with the back door wide open.

They have some scummy friends round who enjoy shouting, while their children get in their 10 hours of screaming a day.

Any requests for quiet are met with laughter or "they're just kids".

I wish I could move / sit quietly in my garden.

I cannot bear this. Imposing one's own taste on others is rude and self indulgent. Faintly hearing music from neighbours is to be expected in summer but anything that reaches much beyond one's fence is antisocial.

Some dreadful person in our village is promoting "driveway concerts". Full amplification, blaring across several blocks. She did one last summer and it was fucking awful. A few people complained and were told it was just to cheer everyone up and anyone who didn't like it was a miserable git.

If she goes ahead again I'm tempted to drive up and down the high street for a few blasting some death metal because I think it would "cheer everyone up"

It's infuriating isn't it.

My scummy neighbour is very fond of Akon circa 2006.

I don't mind the sound of children playing even if it's screaming and yelling but I do take umbrage with aforementioned scummy neighbour screaming and swearing all day long at them.

Sympathy op.

My neighbours have truly dreadful taste in music. (But are otherwise quite nice and considerate)

I could honestly not cope with this. I live on a council estate and have done for 30 years, and am so lucky I've never had this with my neighbours. Some play music when the sun is out, but not deafening volume. I would cry if they did.
We have the odd prat on a motorbike, and the usual fireworks ( October- December), but no music blaring.
Is there no one you can complain to ? It's not fair. Selfish, inconsiderate, entitled pricks they are.

If it wasn't so often I wouldn't care. Other side neighbours are a family of 4, have the occasional party (new year's, birthdays etc) and a few BBQs in the summer. It really doesn't bother me because it's not incessant and consuming as the other side and the constant noise. (They also have better taste in music).

You really have to get out there first with some classical, opera or jazz blasting out. A taste of their own medicine is what this needs.

Yes I think it's time to expand my classical music knowledge!

I'm a big Barbra Streisand fan, that would be fun too.

@crankysaurus

We have similar neighbours, utter arseholes. Stereos in gardens will be outlawed the day I'm put in charge.

Noise (including music) that leaves the confines of your own property (incl garden) will be banned the day I'm in charge.

Bangs gavel.

Selfish arseholes.

Oh god, one of our neighbours is like this. Constant music in the garden on nice days and it’s always utterly shit music.

I was sitting outside last summer and ended up getting my noise cancelling headphones to block out the racket. Except I had the noise cancelling turned up to 10 and DH called me from the kitchen so I shouted ‘Can’t hear you, the noise cancelling on these is brilliant!’ Apparently, the music went off quite quickly after that. Yes! Set Barbra on them! Have you got any Wagner? Download the Ring Cycle, point your speakers against the party wall and head out for the day.

@HeyMicky I would not call Heart FM taste.

If there were more than six of them including their scummy friends as you put it (or more than two households) then I suggest any repeat immediately leads to a call to 101. Three more weekends of the opportunity(!)

You've asked nicely so they have had the opportunity.

I really would like to see a big public health campaign about this, in the same vein as the Keep Britain Tidy campaign and the Green Cross Code ones years ago.

Housing is getting more and more densely packed, and at the same time we're having a big mental health crisis. Add in a pandemic which means lots of people are working from home (and probably will be much more in the future now we're all fully versed in the joys of Zoom) and it really is a huge issue for a really significant number of people.

If there were adverts on TV and radio, and stuff in the media - people talking about it on This Morning and Loose Women and The One Show etc - maybe over a few years we would gradually make noise pollution from loud music etc as much as a well recognised anti social problem as leaving dog crap on the pavement or chucking your McDonalds packaging out of the car window. It is selfish and harmful.

(Here ends the party political broadcast from the BeforetheFlood)

My dad used to call heart fm music to commit suicide to but he did work 12 hour night shifts and it gets really dreary at night

Personally I would soundproof the bedroom or you could put your furniture on the joining wall and your bed on the opposite wall

Outside its time for chicken manure lots and lots of it or 6x?

JorisBonson · 18/04/2021 21:27

@BeforetheFlood for prime minister!!

@Theunamedcat your dad is correct. The party wall is bathroom and hall / stairs upstairs. Our house is piddly small and very thin. I think we'll try to find the cash for soundproofing after the summer for sure.

I second Rammstein. That's what my neighbours are getting this summer. Can't take any more incessant bass thumping.

At the risk of outing myself my neighbours did this constantly.

Till 4 in the morning. Varying levels of drunkenness. Night after night.

I work shifts. Neighbours on the other side had a desperately poorly child.

Music went down but went back up again after pleas for peace.

I was just coming back from knocking politely again when the other neighbour caught me up.

The neighbours had dusted off their stereo.

We dusted off the power washers.

Full blast from either side.

Cleanest fences in Christendom.

Wettest arseholes in the west.

Oh yes we have a neighbour like this except his preference is radio 2 played very loudly in the house with the windows wide open. Interspersed with exceptionally loud burps. He's an absolute delight.

I think it's an unwritten rule that scummy neighbours have to have the worst taste in music. It's almost universal.
