Will Heacham, Norfolk be crazy busy over summer?

I’ve interested in booking a week in Heacham over summer. I’ve never been but can see there are a lot of holiday parks in the area. With everyone staying in UK over summer, is the area going to be really busy? I realise no one has a crystal ball but I’ve never been so don’t know how busy it usually gets.

I would guess they will be, same as all holiday areas this year.

The traffic going that way has been horrendous for most of the Easter holidays if that's anything to go by

LadyWhistledown · 18/04/2021 08:23

It does get very busy in the summer, Hunstanton isn't far away plus the north Norfolk coast is is in easy driving distance.

It's always been very busy in previous summers so I'm guessing this year will be crazy.

If I may hijack your thread, OP ... anyone know if the toilets at the car park for Wells Next the Sea are open?

I’ve been told they are but can’t vouch for this myself. A friend is going to Wells next month and asked the campsite where she’s staying this question and they said yes.

It’s generally busy anyway and apparently it was a bit mad last year . We went up one weekend and the coast road was heaving . But Norfolk has plenty of open spaces and less resorts than say Devon or the South Coast so I would go for it

Janet335 · 18/04/2021 08:37

Thanks for all the information. I think we will risk it!

Go for it, OP!

Thanks CovidCorvid - i got two new rescue dogs during lockdown and can't wait to introduce them to the beach Smile

Just around the coast, Wells next the Sea was like carnival day every weekend in the summer hols last year 😬. As long as you go early to park it should be fine but it will be busy in the area. Heacham may be a little quieter as many will go to Hunst. instead.

TheAuthorityofJackieWeaver · 18/04/2021 08:48

We went last year, stayed near Holt but went all around. Easily parked everywhere and the beaches were not at all crowded. Heacham in particular we felt we almost had to ourselves (on a sunny Saturday in August), the beaches are so vast there. Our favourite beach was Sea Palling. Definitely recommend a trip.

Janet335 · 18/04/2021 08:49

The plan is to take the dogs and just enjoy walking to the beach at quieter times. We don’t mind avoiding busy times but would appreciate some times of calmness 🤣

Be aware that you can’t take your dogs on certain beaches at some times of the year

CovidCorvid · 18/04/2021 15:34

Very good point. My local beach made something like 60k worth of fines in a day the other weekend!

£60k? Sixty thousand???
CovidCorvid · 18/04/2021 15:44

Yep. £60,000 worth of fines in a day. Was on the local news. Maybe it was the weekend, not a day. Think each fine is £200. Seems unbelievable there's that many people with dogs locally. 🤷‍♀️

CovidCorvid · 18/04/2021 15:45

Sorry, just googled to check... It was £6000 not £6p,000. 🤣🙈

Evidencebased · 18/04/2021 16:02

Many North Norfolk beaches have some areas that are dog restricted, but all this means is you have to walk along the prom till you get to the dog areas. Just look for signs when you arrive at a beach.
Holkam Beach has a new rule this year: dogs to be kept on leads, because of disturbance to wildlife.

billysboy · 18/04/2021 16:05

Holkham beach is fab

peak2021 · 18/04/2021 16:20

If it is outside school holidays, I am sure you will have some time for your dogs to take you for a walk without too many people being around.

Grin Still a staggering amount! I'll give my dogs a stern talking to before we hit the beach!
Littlefluffyclouds13 · 19/04/2021 07:19

Heacham is slightly less popular than other areas along that bit of coast, so I think you'll be fine. We've had a couple of lovely holidays there when my dc were younger, they loved it there.
Presumably most uk beaches will be heaving this summer!
