Female pheasant maybe but I thought the tail would be longer.

Any bird experts?

It looks like a tawny owl feather to me

PainterInPeril · 17/04/2021 17:21

I must confess I was expecting a little more to go on than just one feather.... I thought we were getting a photo of the whole bird!Grin

Kestrel perhaps. Or one of the other raptors.

I don't think it's a female pheasant. Their tail feathers are certainly longer but narrower and straighter.

I would say it's a bird of prey but that's as far as my knowledge goes.

You can ID this one for me instead!

I think the feather might be from a buzzard because theirs are a bit lop sided like that, one side wider than the other.

Whatwouldscullydo · 17/04/2021 18:00

Having Googled all your suggestions each search seems to show it really cool be a tawny owl, buzzard, kestrel, literally all turned up pics of a feather that looked identical GrinConfusedHmm

Effectively still none the wiser..

Birds are just beautiful aren't they. The markings/patterns ..all so pretty 😍

@Aprilshowersandhail there's two in that shot. A peacock and a lesser spotted woodpecker.

PainterInPeril · 17/04/2021 18:39

@aprilshowersandhail Kingfisher and a herring gull? Do we get a prize if we get it right? Grin

We live a stone's throw from the sea... Uk.
The coloured bird was very vocal and quite big.

Hedgesfullofbirds · 17/04/2021 21:25

Your feather looks like that of a Common Buzzard or possibly a Red Kite to me, but could also be from a Tawny Owl. Slightly difficult to tell without a gauge to scale it against.

As an aside, I spotted the first Swifts today and heard a newly arrived Grasshopper Warbler yesterday - spring has arrived, at last!

Whatwouldscullydo · 17/04/2021 21:29

How lovelySmile

I usually get pigeons in my garden. Have recently seen a few robins and some gold finches. We have some red kites around here too.

I love seeing all the birds 🐦
