Present for hospital staff

DM is currently in hospital after surgery and would like to send a gift when she comes out to show appreciation for the nurses in ICU and on the ward. Chocolate and biscuits seem the obvious choice but not sure what's allowed in Covid times. Any ideas of something maybe a bit more original and Covid-friendly-ish? (We'll also send thank you cards)

When I was thanking my midwives I gave them cowshed candles and wine. Is it for specific nurses?

WorriedMillie · 17/04/2021 15:15

We sent in individually wrapped chocolates when OH was in hospital recently, they were very well received :)

SocraticJunkieWannabe · 17/04/2021 15:16

No, more of a general gift that can be shared ideally as we know the names of some but not all the nurses who've looked after her.

@worredmillie When you say individually wrapped, do you mean something like Roses/Celebrations (or slightly posher brand the names of which escape me at the moment!) in one tin/box? Is that ok with Covid?

A hamper of hand creams, shower gels, candles, chocs and a lovely note saying thank you and please take something from Mrs X

Herbal tea selection box uk.pukkaherbs.com/products/gifts/pukka-tea-selection-box

Biscuits and chocolate are still fine for covid. You can also give a Costa voucher or similar they can use at whatever the hospital has

Brieminewine · 17/04/2021 15:27

Yes gifts are allowed and always appreciated! Anything edible always goes down well, we once got a lovely hamper with fruit teabags, nice coffee, cordial and biscuits which was lovely.

Goodtohear · 17/04/2021 16:02

I recently sent in a ringtons tea gift box as it had individually wrapped biscuits etc.

paintedpanda · 17/04/2021 16:09

Biscuits and chocolates are always massively appreciated.
Just to let you know, theatre staff are often forgotten when patients have been for surgery and looked after on the wards. It might be nice to get a little something for them too.

notagainmummy · 17/04/2021 16:10

We gave a basket on nice hand creams, soaps, body lotion and shower gels, so people could take what they like. As a nurse I am sick of chocolates and biscuits. Everyone I know is trying to lose weight

Twinkie01 · 17/04/2021 17:04

Bettys Tearooms do lovely hampers. I imagine that'd go down well.

ditavonteesed · 17/04/2021 17:09

The best gift I ever receive is a card with my name on it a I can use it for revalidation. Gifts are lovely but the card is what means the most to me.
Also hand cream we all have hands like 90 year olds now.

SocraticJunkieWannabe · 17/04/2021 17:10

Thanks for all these suggestions. I'll discuss these with DM. For those of you are nurses/ hospital staff, would you send separate hampers/ boxes or whatever for ICU staff & the specific ward (and possibly theatre staff) or just one large gift? Never having worked in a hospital, I'm not sure if they have separate staff areas? Thanks

Of course biscuits and chocolates go well (individually wrapped at the moment) as does nice coffee and tea.

But do you know what my team really like - hearing from the chief executive about what lovely care they have given. If you feel that your mum had good care, email the chief exec and tell them so. We then get an email (via about 6 different managers) sharing that someone said nice things about us. And a letter or card saying thank you - it gives everyone more of a boost than anything else. Our cards all go up on the wall to remind the team that even when morale is low, they are struggling with the volume of work, they did a good job - we share compliments at team meetings, it's such a nice thing to do compared to going through complaints and other reported incidents. And it means such a lot to my team that a family member or patient has taken the time to write them a note or card to say thank you.

I hope your mum recovers quickly and gets home soon Thanks

Toddlerteaplease · 17/04/2021 17:20

We will take any food offering! The thing that makes us very happy is a card mentioning specific people. As we can use it for our revalidation.

FelicityBeedle · 17/04/2021 18:34

Separate for ICU, Ward and theatres I would say, and for names you know absolutely write them on the card

SocraticJunkieWannabe · 17/04/2021 18:51

Thanks, taking all these comments on board

When I was in hospital recently, a grateful ex-patient arranged for pizza to be delivered for all the staff on duty on the ward one Friday lunchtime. Unfortunately, they forgot that some of the staff were vegie and only sent meat based pizzas. A few of the staff were disappointed by this but the vast majority were very chuffed by the gesture.
