Prison help any prison workers?!

Hello everyone. I am currently doing university work on prisons in the UK and how they work. Can anyone tell me a bit about ‘block cells’? When a prisoner misbehaves and gets sent to a cell with nothing in there. Do they have access to phones? How long are they in there for? How long has this practice been in place? And lastly what is the actual term for a ‘block cell’. Many thanks

It's a segregation unit I think.

The governor sends prisoners to seg. Reviewed within 72 hours. IMB told within 24 hours and they check paperwork is in order.

I'm intrigued about what the course and university given that you are researching on Mumsnet without the correct terms. There are different rules depending on the situation. You'd be best to Google prison segregation rules. Ministry of Justice and Prison Reform Trust would be reliable sources.

So weird that you would come to Mumsnet to answers these questions for you. Are you going to quote and give the site and user names as a reference in your work for the evidence ?

You're talking more about American descriptions.

The Segregation Unit (Seg) or Close Supervision / Care and Support Unit (CSU) isn't like being locked in the chokey. It's not a dark basement cell with no natural light / denial of food and water, showers, toilets etc.

Your questions seem very odd. What are you writing about?
