60th birthday present ideas

My husband will be 60 later this year. He is the typical hard to buy for person. He has everything for his hobby, larger purchases he’d have to choose. He already has a good watch, but prefers to wear a cheaper one, doesn’t wear any other jewellery. Not into tech gadgets but does have ipad, good headphones etc

I’d like to surprise him with something nice, I’ve already got a good bottle of port from his birth year, but was thinking of ‘quality’ clothing that he wouldn’t normally buy. I’ve had a look at Paul Smith and Hugo Boss but haven’t seen anything that really grabs me. Plus we’re in Europe so U.K. stores aren’t really an option post brexit

Any ideas?

My DF loves his decent pair of sunglasses.

Starisnotanumber · 16/04/2021 18:04

Proper Barbour jacket don't know where you are but they seem to have an international website.
Not much good if you are living somewhere hot though

Mabelene · 16/04/2021 18:15

We are somewhere hot, and he got new sunglasses last year. Thanks anyway

A designer wallet maybe

FourEyesGood · 16/04/2021 18:29

Just came on to say definitely NOT 60 small presents. Grin

viques · 16/04/2021 18:32

Paul Smith do lovely men’s scarves! OK you are somewhere hot, but there must be the odd chilly day in autumn that would warrant a little neck warmer......

Mont Blanc stuff is quite understated, a pen ,a wallet or card holder ?

SpeckledFrogsLog · 16/04/2021 18:37

Well judging from another thread, definitely DON'T get him 60 presents WinkGrin

Made to measure shoes
Or if he's into practical things - a new chair/lounger to enjoy the sunshine

Sunnyday321 · 16/04/2021 18:42

What other things does he enjoy ? Could you buy a magazine subscription that would suit his interest. Cars , cooking, walking , gardening , history or something like that .

katy1213 · 16/04/2021 18:49

Is he really bothered about clothes? If he's got to 60 and he wouldn't buy it for himself, smartening him up might be more a present to yourself.
I'd like a case of good wine or whisky. Handmade shoes would be lovely - but you might get a shock at the price.

doodlejump1980 · 16/04/2021 18:51

What about tickets to an event? I’m going to get open golf tickets for my husband for his 50th next year.

But in the interests of sexual equality, somebody really should suggest 60 fridge magnets with photos of the children/macrame bird feeders/'nice' teabags/artwork from Poundland etc Why should men escape?

Mabelene · 17/04/2021 00:39

No fridge magnets, just a nice shirt or two would do

I’ll do some monthly deliveries of his faves (he loves haribo type stuff) and I have found some nice ted baker shirts today but hand made shoes, although lovely aren’t really practical here

He does like nice clothes just doesn’t buy them for himself

Does he like gardening? A tree or two? Favourite present for my dh..loves trees!

BarbaraofSeville · 17/04/2021 03:27

A good shirt sounds like a plan, also what about a belt?

What about nice treaty food? I don't know what it's like with Covid where you are, but in the UK, because restaurants have been closed for much of the past year, a lot have been doing deliveries, either ready to eat, or food that is prepared to heat at home.

For DPs birthday, I got him a load of frozen traditional Cornish pasties sent from Cornwall and our 'meal out' was sent from his favourite US BBQ style restaurant.

Don't forget the knitting set, the magnifying glass for small print and a bed jacket.
TheBlessedCheesemaker · 17/04/2021 06:28

Bose Audio wayfarer sunglasses. Around £150.
They link to your smart phone for really good quality music listening experience, and you can take calls with them as they have a microphone too, and nobody around hears a thing. Bought them for my DH and he loves them. And every one of his friends that he has shown them to has gone out and bought a pair as well.

And the 'nice' tissues in a lovingly crafted case.

Even the people who think a bin bag full of crap is a good present for a woman are unlikely to suggest it for a man, which in itself illustrates what a ridiculous idea it is.

Ooh, I like that idea. Never knew that was a thing and I'm very far from interested in tech, but I do like going for walks with my podcasts and they would be great for that.

A belt is a possibility, as he always seems to be asking where his are 😄 (as if I know or care) and possibly the Bose sunglasses

We’ve been lucky that we’ve had a lot of time when restaurants have been open, and when shut they’ve done delivery/take away plus I’ve found an excellent online butcher and bakery and we’ve had several deliveries from them recently.

I was thinking about commissioning artwork, but not sure what of, we don’t have kids, and we’ve had a lot of animals over the years, so difficult to pick out one or two 🤔

He has a good wallet (2 in fact as one has essentials in, and the other is stuffed full of bits of paper and business cards)

A magazine subscription would be difficult here, with brexit and Covid the post is shocking, and I’m not sure they send them overseas

Sorry about all the posts but I’m going back and checking replies

Sadly Bose don’t ship here 🙁
