What school to put for rapid covid test?

tomatotoothpaste · 15/04/2021 20:40

Ordered some of the rapid covid tests just to be on the safe side as I am now back to work (office based).

Did my first one today - negative - and inputted the result. As I'm in a bubble with someone who's at school or works in a school, I had to click that option. It then makes you select the school that the person goes to. Only problem is, what school do I pick?

DD1 is a TA at the local primary.
DD2 is in year 11 at secondary.
Both in household.

I don't see any option to select two, or am I missing something. Or shall I just put 1. Not sure how info is used so not sure if it's important.

@AcornAutumn why? I assume the op is referring to the lateral flow test. I’m assuming you should put down the school your child is a student at. So DD2

tomatotoothpaste · 15/04/2021 20:47

Sorry @AcornAutumn? Any reason for that? Rapid lateral flow tests are now available for the general public. Myself and a few colleagues think we'd be sensible to test twice a week, so we are. Many positive cases are asymptomatic.

Thanks @Thatwentbadly - I was leaning towards that but wasn't sure.

I would put the secondary school for no other reason than the secondary school kids are also doing the tests. To be honest I dont think it matters.

If you get a positive test, do you get paid your regular wage?

How long do you want to live like this? As you are taking tests, I'm guessing a very long time?

Imnothereforthedrama · 15/04/2021 20:52

I don’t think it would matter tbh .
I thought it was allowed that anyone can get the tests now .
Ignore @AcornAutumn I agree your testing stops the spread . We’ve found out had Covid in my household with those tests .

megletthesecond · 15/04/2021 20:54

I decided to put neither. DC's at different secondary schools.

I did give them feedback on the website pointing out they need to change the reporting system so parents can put two or three schools down.

DancesWithDaffodils · 15/04/2021 20:54

I'd go with DD2.
(I'm down at the school I work in, DS1 at the school he attends, and DH uses DS2's primary school).

OrangeBananaFish · 15/04/2021 20:55

I fucking hate lockdown and think we should open up a lot quicker.

I've been doing LFT since it was advised anyone in a bubble with a school should do them. I have 3 DCs at 3 different schools. I just pick the primary one for me (and DH). Not sure it does make a difference especially when its negative. I don't understand why we can't give the result before all the rigmarole first. I get why they may need certain information for a positive test for tracing, but why do I have to give my mobile number to then get a text from the NHS telling me I'm negative when it is what I told them in the first place?

tomatotoothpaste · 15/04/2021 20:56

@AcornAutumn - thanks for your input but respectfully I disagree. I'm so aware that people need to get back to their livelihoods - I work in the arts and have been out of work for a while, we live in a v. touristy area and DP and his sister own a cafe which has just reopened. We all want to go about our lives, albeit safely, and we're doing this by testing regularly.

I asked what school I should put for, not whether or not I should be doing the test.

Thanks everyone - I did put DD2's secondary school. Hopefully the tests will stay negative so it won't really be an issue anyway!

@AcornAutumn what a silly thing to say. I don't love lockdown. I want my livelihood back and can't go to work without testing. Surely picking up an asymptotic case and getting them to isolate is better than letting them infect 20 other people who may be quite sick with it?

SarsonsWine · 15/04/2021 20:58

@AcornAutumn It's just encouraging lockdown. The only people doing are lockdown lovers.

No, the people are doing it also include people who are expected to by their workplace.

DancesWithDaffodils · 15/04/2021 21:01

@OrangeBananaFish please join me in feeding back each report how annoying it is entering date for kids who cant have accounts. There is a feedback option at the top of the page once you've submitted the result. It requires another shitload of info from you, but will let you rant. It also makes me cross that you enter the school, with postcode, and wants our home address, yet asks for if we live in England/N Ireland/Scotland /Wales.... surely you can figure it out from all the rest of the info....

Yes some are forced by work
OP doesn't say that though

The people queuing for surge testing in london - I haven't been to ask them but think they are volunteering

It's insanity. We have to live with some degree of risk. We always have but apparently some people never knew it.

fizbosshoes · 15/04/2021 21:04

Weve been testing twice a week for about a month.
I have 2 DCs at 2 different schools. I enter the one that is quickest to fill in , for me and DH Blush Blush
I also skip occupation as there isnt an accurate one that covers either of our jobs, and none of us have an email address (I dont want an email and a text telling me the same info)

Ooh I've never really noticed the feedback thing. Wil have a look on Sunday when I next report.

Agree about schools. We live in NE England so DCs also go to school here. I really can't see someone coming from Wales every day just to bring their DCs to school

taybert · 15/04/2021 21:50

@OrangeBananaFish I always say “I just told you that” when the text arrives Smile but actually I think it’s in case you need to prove you’ve had a negative test- I’m a doctor and need a recent negative if I visit a care home. I just keep the texts and I can show them when I visit.

TheOrigRights · 15/04/2021 21:52

The only people doing are lockdown lovers.

I am required to do a LFT in order to visit a family member in a nursing home. Bore off with your sweeping generalisations and dramatics.

EventuallyDistracted · 15/04/2021 21:59

I'm just alternating between my two DCs schools, easy enough. I'm not a lockdown lover either, I'm going out lots but am happy enough to do this.

Foofbrush · 15/04/2021 22:03

I don't think it really matters which you put. However I would point out that LF tests only pick up cases of high viral load/ shedding virus/ likely to infect others, and then only in around 60% of tests In general, asymptomatic cases are those with lower viral load who are less likely to infect others. So the Government telling tho use LF to find asymptomatic cases is bollocks
