Do you use "honey" as a term of endearment for your partner?

I always think of "honey" or "hon" as an American term of endearment but I'm hearing it used more frequently here. And I've just seen it on an advert.

It's not one that I'd use, seems a bit unnatural to me. Does anyone use it for their other halves?

I (female) call my best friend (male gay if it matters) honey or hun and he calls me babe.
I call my wife babe, darling, some names we won't mention and her name.
I call dd honey sometimes too.

Scotabroad24 · 15/04/2021 20:06

I usually only call DP obscene words Grin

Babe, if I am after something, and only by his name if he is annoying me.

BobbuhT · 15/04/2021 20:10

Skat? Scat? Poo?
I call him honey because he hates it.

ZenNudist · 15/04/2021 20:11

We call each other hon or honey most of the time. It predates the ubiquitous "hun" which I associate with marauding Germanic tribesmen.

HasaDigaEebowai · 15/04/2021 20:13

Babe or husband. Not honey

No, we call each other 'Lad' quasi-ironically

GrouchyKiwi · 15/04/2021 20:21

I do sometimes, but as a Kiwi it's more common.

Mostly I use his name.

violetmonster · 15/04/2021 20:31

Sweetie is my go to, I know it's a bit twee but we like it! Not honey here though

Lazierdays · 15/04/2021 21:31

No, agave as we are vegan Grin

Changechangychange · 15/04/2021 21:33

I do use honey.

DS3 has started yelling “honey!” when he wants something from DH, so maybe I should stop Grin

cricketmum84 · 15/04/2021 21:37

Ugh cringe!!

DH is either called by his name or if he has done something nice for me it's a "thanks love".

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 15/04/2021 21:50

Yes. Honey or sweetie. But we are all Americans, so I get a pass.
When Dd was 4 she thought Dh's actual name was either Daddy or Honey.

Horsemad · 15/04/2021 22:10

We don't use terms of endearment, just use our names.

I hate hon/honey or love even - the latter reminds me of a work colleague from years ago who used it when talking to customers - she was 21 and it sounded so patronising, I vowed never to use it.

carbonella · 15/04/2021 22:15

We both call each other sweetie, darling, baby, babe, honey, sweetheart, gorgeous, sweetiepie, and dh sometimes calls me cutie.

Only just now do I realise how many endearments we use! We're quite flirty with each other, I think that's why. Not really in public though, just at home. I kinda like that we're still using silly names after 17 years!

FourteenthDoctor · 15/04/2021 22:18

Fuckface or wanksplash

GrouchyKiwi · 15/04/2021 22:19

Sometimes I call him "babe" too, mostly jokingly because of an in-joke, but sometimes after listening to this song.

Returnoftheowl · 15/04/2021 22:55

I generally use his name, but I do sometimes use honey.

caringcarer · 15/04/2021 23:06

I use DH surname and all his friends and colleagues call him that too. I.call DC darling or sweety.

Loveistheonlyway · 15/04/2021 23:08

Honey and babe are just awful.

OuiOuiKitty · 15/04/2021 23:11

Babes or dollface.

Justmuddlingalong · 15/04/2021 23:12

I use fannybaws, he uses snowbaw.

someoneiou · 15/04/2021 23:13

Baby, babe, or darling in this house.

Actual names when we're in the midst of an argument.

grapewine · 15/04/2021 23:14

@NewLevelsOfTiredness

Neither of is use honey.

I (male) call my partner (female) sweetie, or darling if she's teasing me, which is a lot. Or sometimes Skat, which is kinda 'darling' in her native Danish. Skat also means "treasure", which is lovely, and "tax", which is less lovely.

Another interesting facet of the Danish love language is that the verb for married is 'gift'... which also means 'poison.'

You have to love this language 😅 No wonder it's so difficult to learn...
Casmama · 15/04/2021 23:14

Yep use honey and couldn't give a monkeys if it makes you cringe 😝. Seems a bit odd to have such a strong reaction about what someone calls their partner
