Actually it's dependant.

PPs are confusing it with independent.

Umbivalent · 15/04/2021 18:05

Dependent is the American spelling. UK is dependant.

Dependent

Your sentences need to start with a capital letter and end with a full stop. Ellipses have three dots not two.

Dependant

oneglassandpuzzled · 15/04/2021 18:09

@Umbivalent

Dependent is the American spelling. UK is dependant.
Dependent is more usually an adjective in the UK. Dependant is a noun.

My dependent niece needs me to fund her. She is my only dependant.

dubyalass · 15/04/2021 18:41

Agree with @oneglassandpuzzled.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 15/04/2021 18:44

Dependant - noun - one who depends on support from others
Dependent - adjective - reliant upon

@Umbivalent

No, in the OP's sentence it's dependent.
shinyblackdog · 15/04/2021 19:27

Previous four posters are correct. Dependant is a noun.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 16/04/2021 07:28

As @BobbinThreadbare123 said above, the 'a' spelling used in the UK is for a different meaning than the one in your sentence. The 'e' spelling is the correct one in this context.

If you were talking about your dependants (ie the people who were financially dependent on you) you'd use the noun.
