Earning money in retirement

Hi all just looking for some ideas.
I’m going to retire when I’m 60 but am looking to train in something that would earn me some income.
I’ve thought about reflexology or counselling but other ideas welcome.
I’m happy to retrain on a part time basis. I’m currently 56.
Thanks

What do you do now?

GrimDamnFanjo · 14/04/2021 18:08

Hypnotherapy?

EdithKnobchops · 14/04/2021 19:17

Dog walking?

VladmirsPoutine · 14/04/2021 19:26

Do you mean earn you side income i.e. you wouldn't 'need' to be dependant on that income or something more substantial? If the former perhaps knitting bits and putting them on etsy. If the latter forget retirement at 60.

Bearnecessity · 14/04/2021 19:52

I am a reflexologist....go for it...fab thing to be doing....

Whydidimarryhim · 14/04/2021 22:33

I’m a nurse and don’t want to continue with this. I will get some pension but will need around £400 per month extra.
I don’t like dogs.
I did think reflexology - the training isn’t to expensive.
I hadn’t thought of hypnotherapy - I will look it up.
More ideas welcome. 😀 Thanks

Doula or hypnobirthing trainer

Juliettbravo · 14/04/2021 23:10

Can't you flexi retire ? I'm a nurse too, might drop to be one a hca but without the stress of paperwork, meds etc.
I work on ICU where the role is very different however.

Juliettbravo · 14/04/2021 23:11

Drop to be a it should say

AdaColeman · 14/04/2021 23:12

Acupuncture, chiropodist??

Fullofthejoysofspring · 14/04/2021 23:13

AdaColeman · 14/04/2021 23:13

Nurse in a GP practice?

Ragwort · 14/04/2021 23:18

Babysitting, childcare ? ... or respite care for elderly ?.. my DF has mild dementia and it would be lovely for someone 'independent' to go out for a walk and a pub lunch with him ...

AdaColeman · 14/04/2021 23:20

Dietitian or nutritionist?

HappenstanceMarmite · 14/04/2021 23:22

I’m 60 in June and, whilst not being able to retire yet, I too am looking at options. One thing I’m quite keen on is call handler at 111 or 999 services. You can do as little as 15 hours a week over a couple of days. Might suit you with your medical background?

Quite a few nurses I know have retrained in specific types of beauty therapy, such as skin tag removal and Botox injections.
Nomorerainplease · 14/04/2021 23:24

Nurse in a GP practice is pretty full on too...

Soontobe60 · 14/04/2021 23:24

Oh, and my sister, who works in the NHS as an OT, has taken her pension and returned part time in the same role. I think she had to have 4 weeks off in order to return. She works 2 days and with her pension and salary combined is better off than when she worked full time!

OllyBJolly · 14/04/2021 23:29

Celebrant?

HollowTalk · 14/04/2021 23:34

Definitely Botox. It will bring in much more money than anything else.

AdaColeman · 14/04/2021 23:42

Botox is a brilliant idea!

AndWhat · 14/04/2021 23:57

When we got our life insurance a nurse had to come and do a questionnaire she told me she had retired from the NHS and just did a few hours doing these screenings. Maybe see about something like this

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Some great ideas. Not sure which one I will go for but will investigate. Thanks again.
