We have been robbed, my teen boys were in the house..

I feel so shaky. I took my girls to an art club and my teen boys were in the house.
Thankfully my boys were not harmed or injured. The robbers forced their way in. We live in a detached property in a rural area. They took all my jewellery.
I feel sick- they were probably watching the house.

@endofthelinefinally- not really sure what to say. They did come and I'm grateful.

Maybe because one of my boys is 16 and therefore a minor or we live in a rural part of England which is relatively crime free...

@MiaChia

There are a lot of conspiracy theorists on this thread! ‘Far more to this than meets the eye’ etc. Really? Are you all employed by the CID?

Our burglars also took car keys and watches etc but left all iPads, phones and laptops and that’s how most of them operate according to the police who attended quickly and arrested the thieving scumbags a few miles down the road. They turned out to be seasoned scumbags too and so they got awarded a few years prison time for their ‘efforts’. They attacked my son who disturbed them and I hope they are enjoying prison food because it’s all they’ll be getting for a while!

You only need to watch e.g. Episodes of csi, ncis, ect to become partly knowledgeable.

The 16 year old is the youngest in his class (August born). He will be 17 this year.

@Thymeaftertime

You said both your boys were studying for A levels. How is the 16 year old doing A levels and aren't all the schools back in England?...
Loads of areas are still on Easter holidays and afaik 16 is the age when almost everyone starts their A levels except for a small number of unusual cases.

Why not just say what you mean instead of pretty rubbish insinuations?

saraclara · 14/04/2021 17:56

The police knew we'd been burgled (while we slept) before we did. I woke up to the sound of a police officer talking on his radio outside our wide open front door. Someone had found my work bag with its (non valuable) contents strewn around, on a verge not far from my house. One of the contents had my name and address on, so the finder very thoughtfully phoned the police and suggested they check on us.

Jeeeze, what on earth is wrong with you?
sadpapercourtesan · 14/04/2021 18:01

I've got a 16yo and an 18yo, both doing A Levels. August and September birthdays.

Troll-hunting is banned, btw. And rude, and boring.

VladmirsPoutine · 14/04/2021 18:06

The Met Police won't even come out for armed robbery unless there is death or serious injury.

And even then they'll probably be dragging their feet. Bikini in the Arctic.

Checkingout811 · 14/04/2021 18:11

My kids aren’t back at school until Monday @Thymeaftertime I don’t see the point of your post?
Also, as I’m an august birthday, I did my GCSEs at 15 and AS levels at 16. Again, don’t see the point of your postc

tommyhoundmum · 14/04/2021 18:13

Suspicious they headed straight for the jewellery.

I am so sorry this happened to you. There are some dreadful people in our world.

My 16 year olds (twins, so I'm definitely a troll) are doing A Levels. First year, but still A Levels. They go back to school on Monday. Like the rest of the county's schools.
MissConductUS · 14/04/2021 18:26

We got burgled about 15 years ago. We had an alarm system but they put a ladder up to our second story deck and got in that way. All they took was jewelry, including my engagement ring, which was on a ring stand by our bed.

On Monday we had the old system replaced with a new alarm system from Ring, with two outside floodlight cameras and the video doorbell. We also have motion detectors and one camera that looks down the main hallway of the house. The Ring system (now owned by Amazon) is really easy to use and works a treat. I just got an alert that someone is at the front door and it turned out to be my son mowing the lawn.

Twinkie01 · 14/04/2021 18:26

After we were burgled (twice) the policeman said you did all you could, the Queen, with all her security, woke up to a man sitting on the end of her bed. Just take comfort in the fact that you and yours are safe and weren't hurt and belongings are far more replaceable than people.

Not much help in the immediate aftermath when you feel violated and in shock but it helped in the weeks following.

I'm sorry this happened to you.

Onesnowynight · 14/04/2021 18:31

So sorry to hear this OP it actually makes me feel sick with dc of similar age. I can only imagine how you feel. I know this may not be your case or relevant right now, but when my friends parents were burgled they too took a safe from their bedroom, and they felt that decorating the room helped them get over it, after knowing someone had seen their private area.

notacooldad · 14/04/2021 19:01

Oh god, it's such an awful thing being burgled.
We were burgled in the middle of the afternoon. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was two pans of water boiling on the noob. I knew I hadn't left them there. The police aid it was to throw at us if we interupted them. Apparently it was common tactic a while ago!
I'm glad your lads are ok.

Sunshine1235 · 14/04/2021 19:01

So glad to hear the police area taking this seriously. When I was around 17 I was asleep at home one morning and someone broke into my house, I only knew when they opened my bedroom door (and legged it when I sat up) it was just some kid who had taken advantage of a blown open side gate. I was in shock, walked down the road to the local police station where the officer in the reception just asked me why I hadn’t called 999 in a condescending way. I felt so stupid for not thinking of that and consequently never told my parents it happened. I couldn’t sleep properly for months until I actually moved house (already planned) a while later. The house I moved into had previously had a burglary so had loads of locks and security so I felt much safer there.

Not telling you this to draw attention to myself, over it a long time ago but thought it might be helpful to get an insight into how your boys could be feeling

Hendecan · 14/04/2021 19:04

Again thank you so much to all of you who have given me support and kind messages.
It really means a lot.

I didnt have insurance on my jewellery but the main thing for me is that my boys are safe and well. I feel very grateful for that.

Just wanted to say I sympathise . We were burgled , luckily not at home . But they just took jewellery and cash . It was the sentimental stuff that hurt the most . And basically I did not even care that the insurance did not pay out ( I had ticked a wrong box ) because money would not have made any difference .

We had a small safe that they took with them . And they just went through everything just to find cash and jewellery nothing else went .

I went into shock for a while , it is a horrible feeling , then I got angry , then got a bit obsessed trying to find the jewellery on online sites .

The police reckoned it was opportunistic , I was not so sure as we away for the weekend .

💐 it’s just a horrible feeling .

Cosmos45 · 14/04/2021 19:26

OP, once again I am sorry this happened to you. I just wanted to add that after my neighbour was burgled the police visited us and gave us SelectaDNA which is a DNA property marking kit. It was free. Basically (this is my limited knowledge and crass explanation) they give you a bottle of clear liquid which has micro crystals in it, these are registered to you as an owner and you mark your property with it. Should you get burgled and your belongings end up in the police database they can be scanned. I guess it is similar to microchipping a pet. They also gave us labels and stickers to put in our windows. I wonder if anyone reading this thread can speak to their local PSCO and find out if they supply this - it apparently deters thieves by up to 83%. I am not sure it will ever help us, but we have marked all of our property regardless just in case (TV's, handbags, purses, watches, jewellery etc).

CandyLeBonBon · 14/04/2021 21:15

My middle one is 16 and starting his A level year. Back to school next week.

Surely your house insurance will cover jewellery op?

PegasusReturns · 14/04/2021 21:44

So sorry for you and your boys.

A neighbour was burgled recently, fortunately she was out. They have an alarm linked to live security so the police were there within 20 minutes. The burglars had gone but similar to you had taken a small safe.

The police said it was fairly standard: most houses of a certain size have a safe in the master bedroom/dressing room and many of them are not fixed so can just be carried out.

whatisheupto · 14/04/2021 21:52

Sorry OP, how awful. You don't think there's a chance the burglars were known to your sons do you? Or that maybe they know more than they are telling you?

Ontheboardwalk · 14/04/2021 22:22

I’m sorry OP hope you are all ok

I disturbed some —cunts— burglars when I was 18. They’d kicked in the front door put the chain on and ran out the back when I tried to get in.

Was terraced house so ran round the end of houses. Didn’t think of asking a neighbour to walk through their house. No idea what I would have done if I’d seen them

I do now have Ring and a Nest camera in the house. Won’t stop them but would at least capture them
