PJs for tall skinny 8 year old

Actually he isn't overly tall, just so skinny it makes him look taller iyswim. He needs size 8/9 for length but they literally slip straight off him and he would fit size 4-5 waist! Usually I buy from TK Max and sew up the elastic but they seem to fade really fast and I'm looking for alternatives - ideally bright and fun ones.

H & M

LeggingWoah · 13/04/2021 20:57

Oh yeah, h and m. That's what I normally buy - not TK Max 😅 he is too skinny for h and m

My 6.5 year old is very tall and in 8-9 for leg length now, also very skinny. He has Next and M&S skinny fit pyjamas at the moment and the waist fits. They never used to though. Regular fit fall down though. TU were ok, but I never seem to get any in stock.

We are having the same problem with my 7 year old son and he is wearing some from Sainsbury's, they are slightly baggy if he jumps on the bed but the only ones that have managed to stay up. I usually buy him the super skinny ones from Next but the 7-8 year ones are massive.

LeggingWoah · 13/04/2021 21:07

Great thanks, I will check them out. M&S adjustable trousers fit him really nicely, not sure if we've tried PJs. I will look in Next as well.

I love TU stuff but it's too big on the waist for him.

Boden might be ok. I got Christmas pjs for my 3 dcs, age 13. 11 and 6 at Christmas. They definitely came up very slim, which was great for the boys, who are very slender, but not so great for dd, who is starting to develop some curves.
Frugi might be another one, especially for the fun prints.

anxietyanonymous · 13/04/2021 21:29

We also have this problem. I tend to buy next as i find them the slimmest fitting. I tend to buy 'right' size and just sew a line one inch in From the edge of the waistband on each side so they don't fall down. Not hugely neat but means son can wear pjs he likes and is comfy and is mostly coveted by the t shirt.

LeggingWoah · 13/04/2021 21:51

@anxietyanonymous I'm by no means a seamstress but I have perfected the art of a slightly neater look if it interests you; I cut a line on the inside of the waistband the same height as the elastic, pull the elastic through (so I can see/get to it) and then fold the elastic back on itself and sew (a couple of inches) before pushing it back inside the seam and sewing up the hole. I always tell myself it'll be easy to let out when he gets bigger but he has never needed me to.

Hatley are good for tall, skinny children. They are £££ though but worth checking out in the sale.

BobbleHatDay · 13/04/2021 21:57

I have literally just spent this evening taking in two new pairs of h&m pjs for my 10 year old, who's in aged 12 clothes but not around his waist! Story of my life!

LeggingWoah · 13/04/2021 22:34

Ooh, Hatley. He had a gorgeous babygro (gift) from there once. Will check - thanks!

The hatley stuff is gorgeous - thanks for reminding me about them. Now to decide if I can justify spending £28 on one pair of pjs Grin

M&S skinny fit (in the packets) are great for DS who is also tall & skinny, they're actually the cheapest that they do, but they have lovely designs and are great quality!

BluntlySpoken · 13/04/2021 22:41

Snuggle fit would maybe be ideal.?

Tig33 · 13/04/2021 22:46

My DS is tall and skinny and best PJ’s were Gap and Boden. M&S Ones were so big that they actually fell down.

Misty9 · 13/04/2021 22:46

M&S skinny fit here too, and also polarn o pyret (pop) used to be really good as they have long cuffs designed to extend with growth. But the local one closed and I haven't like their recent designs :(
Luckily ds likes wearing short legs too!
