So Blackpool was absolutely packed with joyful people today!

The sea front full of happy families enjoying the blue skies and sunshine.
Every restaurant and pub jam packed outside with people.
The horse & trolleys were ferrying folk up & down the prom, tram stops with big queues.
The sea looked blue & calm. Great sea brows across to the Lake District.
The funfairs open and huge Ferris wheels were turning with people on.
Good to see some normality and happiness at last.
Not a mask in sight.
Not a single bit of SD
I hope this doesn’t mean another catastrophic wave.

@TrustTheGeneGenie
You have never needed to wear a mask outside

No but coupled with morons not social distancing, it's too much of a risk!

Branleuse · 12/04/2021 20:17

god forbid people do the things theyre legally allowed to do!

ButForTheGrace · 12/04/2021 20:18

Recently published in the Irish Times:

Of the 232,164 cases of Covid-19 recorded in the State up to March 24th this year, 262 were as a result of outdoor transmission, representing 0.1 per cent of the total

I'm making the assumption that rates in the UK will be similar to that of Ireland - outdoors is really low risk. Don't panic Mr Mainwaring!

GiveMeTulipsfromAmsterdam · 12/04/2021 20:19

Tell me @imaginethemdragons where the rules say that people should wear masks outside Hmm

Let them be. I hope they had a lovely day outside ☺

Oblomov21 · 12/04/2021 20:20

No SD? Why? Why are people so stupid?

GiveMeTulipsfromAmsterdam · 12/04/2021 20:20

Indeed, so much frothing about doing what they are allowed to do....
islockdownoveryet · 12/04/2021 20:20

I’m not sure why you think people would need masks outside. Also unless people stood less than 2 metres and I doubt outside it’s not necessary.
I went to Blackpool last summer and you had to wear a mask in Blackpool pleasure beach on the rides / queuing. Walking around is fine and so is the same with the prom on the pier .
I think your being dramatic op it’s the first day that anything has opened since Christmas . In fact most of the north west restaurants/ pubs have been shut since October. Let people try and enjoy themselves , I’m assuming you did too as you were out there too so were you walking outside with a mask on ? .

Tana433 · 12/04/2021 20:25

Bloody marvellous, i hope they all had a great day. My local city was lovely and busy. People smiling, laughing, drinking and eating and generally just enjoying being out together. Long may it continue, today was the first day in a long time that i didnt have to paint on a forced smile. Today it was genuine.

1forAll74 · 12/04/2021 20:27

It's fairly obvious that this would happen, everyone has been released from their home prisons, and want's some fun, be it Blackpool. or get in the long queues outside Primark at 7.30 am, for their different kind of fun.. All good for business.; so lets forget about the virus for the time being.!

But I dare say, that I would like to walk along the Prom at Blackpool if I lived up North again. Get a bag of fish and chips, sit on a bench to eat them, along with the thieving seagulls, and knowing that the sea breeze will blow all the virus away haha. !

Letsrunabath · 12/04/2021 20:32

Morecambe bay. Not that far from Blackpool. Very lucky.

So Blackpool was absolutely packed with joyful people today!
ineedaholidaynow · 12/04/2021 20:34

You are still meant to social distance if mixing with people not in your household aren't you

imaginethemdragons · 12/04/2021 20:34

I meant people coming out of pubs to the outside area without masks.
In and out of the Little Rock shops/candy floss and burger kiosks, no masks.

I was driving through.

It really warmed my cockles seeing the place bustling and busy with happy people for the first time in such a long time.
The comedy carpet was full of people & families, people carrying huge primark bags...woohoo!!
A wee touch of normality!

The sea looked blue because of the blue skies reflection I think! It did genuinely look blue though. (The turds were still bobbing around in there of course!)

@imaginethemdragons you were giving such a lovely image of the sea there and then brought it down to earth Grin

Morecambe bay no filters. Beautiful area, hopefully COVID will be the making of it after year of being run down.

Brandaris · 12/04/2021 20:42

Urgh I never knew people swam in morecambe bay! I once did a cross bay walk and there was solid recognisable human shit. Had to throw away everything I’d been wearing from the knee down. That was 20 years ago, have they cleaned it up since?

Op, you need a stick with an ‘orses ‘ead ‘andle to keep your social distance and you’ll be grand.

Sadsiblingatsea · 12/04/2021 20:47

Great to see people enjoying themselves!

thefishthatcouldwish · 12/04/2021 20:49

Blue sea in Blackpool in all the years have been there never seen it before 😄 sorry not helpful.

Letsrunabath · 12/04/2021 20:57

Morecambe bay has a blue flag. Loads of swimmers, kite surfers and paddle boarders. Embrace your local area.

Saz12 · 12/04/2021 21:04

Yay! I really REALLY need to start feeling normal again, rather than suspended as life disappears in my slowly rotting body.

merrymelody · 12/04/2021 21:04

My DM was born in Blackpool and the last time I was there must have been a thousand years ago (or that's what it feels like). But I don't remember calm seas or particularly happy people... Maybe they're happy to be out and about!

DS(19) is going into town with a friend on Thursday. I couldn't be more excited if he had announced that he had won a Nobel prize. He hasnt met up with friends in person since last September...
