Silly question - kids swimming lesson attire

I'm probably overthinking this but DS4 due to start swimming lessons later today.

He needed new swimwear so let him choose and he has gone for an all in one (the sort that have built in sun protection) with short sleeves and legs.

But now wondering if this is just what kids wear to the beach etc. and not appropriate for lessons?!

No it’s perfect Smile

All in one is fine as long as it's really well fitted, too baggy and it fills up with water and becomes heavy.

Same with board shorts, short tight trunks or a plain swimsuit is ideal. No bikinis as they spend too much time rearranging them.

Thanks both - I'm not quite sure how well fitted it is as he's not used it yet. I will pick up something else for next week if it does get too heavy.

Just didn't want to get strange looks when we arrived today! Although I suspect most of today might be spent stood on the side as he's really nervous Confused

Its fine. Ds is 7 and about 50% of the kids (including him) still wear the all in one type thing to swim class (or did last time we were there in December Smile).

At 4 I don’t think he’d stand out. When my daughter was in the the pre-school class for 3-4 year olds lots of the kids were in all in ones, rash vests, the older swim-nappy type jammers or costumes etc. The older kids were all in normal costumes.

Our pool is quite cold as it's a training pool not a leisure pool so most of the little ones wear those suits.

SherryPalmer · 12/04/2021 15:20

I try to avoid these for indoor swimming as I think they can make kids a bit cold if they have to spend
any time out of the water.

There will be a lot children wearing similar and it will keep them warmer in the water. Pretty sure he pick board shorts next year though!
