Anyone had the lenses in their eyes replaced?

My eyesight is getting worse. I'm currently -8.75 in both eyes and a glasses prescription that is quite complicated.

I am told I am too old (49) and with too poor vision to get laser surgery.

I'm tired of glasses. I can't find contact lenses that suit my prescription for reading etc.

I was thinking about having the lenses in my eyes replaced. My dad had this done a few years ago and he said it was straightforward and liberating but he had mild cataracts.

Has anyone else had it done?

My husband did about 8 or 10 years ago now. His eyesight has always been bad, coke bottle glasses since he was 17. He had one eye done first and the second a few weeks later. Minimal discomfort, he has never looked back! (See what I did there?).

I'll probably end up having lenses replaced in the next few years, as I'm told I have the beginnings of an aggressive type of cataract in one eye.

My eyesight is crap anyway, -9.00 and varifocals needed. I'll be happy to have standard lenses and just use reading glasses. My dad has had this done and he's fine.

Had one eye done before Christmas, the other just after, still need glasses but very low value prescription by comparison.
I had steroid induced cataracts in both eyes.

I have quite fast developing cataracts in both eyes( plus glaucoma)
I'm due to see the surgeon in 6 months but can I ask if the replacement lenses are " prescription" or blank please? I'm -9.50 in both eyes

I had mine done as a bairn (congenital cataracts) and had no issues over the years.
I'm having age related deterioration now and I'm considering getting them replaced.
It was a small op back then so it can only have improved.

I had mined done five years ago. I had cataracts and a medication caused the shape of my eyes to change very slightly. I then had shallow angle which is a type of glaucoma. I had cataract surgery on the NHS. It worked very well for me as I had no other eye issues. I was awake and although I was very anxious (!) I did find it interesting. You are aware of everything but it doesn't hurt as you have drops put in several times over a few hours. On the NHS you get long distance lenses so you need glasses for close up. Privately there are three types to choose from. The long distance ones tend to be more reliable (according to internet!). I'm not sure whether you can have a general anaesthetic if you go private.
