Anyone up? I'm here freaking out about my newborn

She was born on Friday after 38 hours of a traumatic labour ending in an epidural forceps episiotomy and blood transfusion. Since then I've seen 4dirty nappies and only one solely pee which was last night. Today she's been dry as a bone all day. My milk still hasn't come in but I don't think she's latching right, I just gave her a wee bit of formula there, just so she has something in her tummy. I'm praying for a wet nappy. I'll be so happy if I could get a wet nappy out of her. The midwife is coming tomorrow morning anyway but now I'm just sitting here with her in my arms freaking out that there's something wrong with her. She's sleeping quietly, I know I should just put her down and sleep but I can't.

@Cathcat41

So glad your milk is starting to come in with wet nappies.

I have my 5 week old little guy here next to me so not been long at all since I was worrying if I was giving him enough because of his jaundice - they really do worry us from the moment we see that line!

But they also make us the happiest so a happy trade off.

You're doing what you can do give yourself a Pat on the back - newborn stage is not easy!

You worry about them in different ways but it’s a lot easier when they can tell you what’s up! (Not a fan of newborn days, the best is definitely coming!).

Glad your milk is coming in and sounds like you’re getting good help.

Yay!!! A MN triumph! Love this thread (the ending of course). @Cathcat41 so happy for you and your little girl.
My son was born frank breech (natural birth) so his tummy was full of something or other (can't remember the word for it) as apparently this stuff comes out when they're born (the 'right' way around), and I was told that c-section babies have fluid drained from their lungs and tummy (don't even know if this is all of them??) anyway, my son didn't latch until 2 days old!! I had to formula feed and by then I still wasn't producing enough milk - I ended up topping him up after breast.
I recall the midwife telling me about the soft spot on their skull - if it's dipped, it means they're dehydrated.

Well done MN and well done OP Flowers Bear

I'm so goad you're both back on track. Just to forewarn you, from my experience of three babies, days 3-4 are the ones where a torrent of hormones means a torrent of tears, and days 5-7 are the ones where it feels like your poor nipples may actually fall off if you breastfeed any more. Keep slathering on the lanolin cream after each feed, take paracetamol to dull the edge of the pain, and by day 10 it will start to settle down and become become much easier x

The tears are a sign your milk is on the way too. I’m not a crier but I think I cried about 6 times on the day my milk arrived. I recall sobbing to the midwife “I’m not normally like this” and she said “milk’s on the way, lots of people feel like this”

@Cathcat41 it does become less raw and intense, you get used to thinking about them all the time and it just becomes normal.

Note, re: pumping, what you are able to pump doesn’t reflect how much milk you produce, some women can produce loads but pump hardly anything. As long as baby is getting into a good rhythm of sucking and swallowing milk will be going in. And as long as poo and wee are coming out, and weight is going up all is well.

Good luck!
