Temperature in DS, what should I do?

Hi,
Have just woken with DS in between us in the bed feeling hot, he is 13 months. Temperature says 38.6 but he was wriggling trying to get away so may be slightly warmer than that. No obvious symptoms of anything, and has been find in himself today other than not wanting much to eat and being a bit more tired than usual.

I have given him some calpol and now
I'm feeding him, is there anything else I ought to do?

Thank you

Have you checked for a rash?
Sounds like he has a bit of a fever, as long as he’s feeding, I’d give him a fresh nappy, make sure he’s not sore/wet and give calpol and see how he is in the morning. Make sure he’s not too hot in bed. Hope he feels better tomorrow.
I used to give DD some water too.

Not a doctor Ring 111 if he gets worse or your worried.

38.6 doesn't sound terribly hot. If you're worried, take his temperature again in an hour to check that the Calpol has brought it down a bit.

The feed will have hydrated him.

Make sure the room is a normal sort of temperature. They don't recommend stripping clothing off to cool off any more.

Does he still sleep in with you or in his own room? If I've ever been worried about DD I sleep next to her (either on her bedroom floor or put her in my bed - but at 13m she was still in the cot in my room anyway).

Thank you both. Temp has come down slightly although he still feels warm, he's still feeding and fast asleep. No concerns about him dehydrating lol.

He usually starts the night in his cot and ends up in our bed, which is where he will stay tonight.

It always seems to be night time when they get poorly doesn't it?

@hermionieweasley

How's your ds today?

I hope you had a peaceful night.

hermionieweasley · 12/04/2021 09:19

Hi thanks for checking in- he is grouchy and clingy and just wants his mummy, but no temperature. Will keep up his calpol and hopefully he will start to feel brighter soon

Have you done a Covid test?

NerrSnerr · 12/04/2021 09:41

He'll need a Covid test and for your household to isolate while you wait for results.

hermionieweasley · 12/04/2021 12:11

I have the lateral flow tests, are they accurate enough or do I need to book in for PCR?

As he has had symptoms (temperature) he will need a PCR test. You should all isolate until your the result.

eensyweensySpider · 12/04/2021 12:23

Ugh, sorry OP! We went through this about a month ago with my then 12m DS. Negative COVID test, no other symptoms whatsoever, but he broke out in a rash after 3 days, which is when the fever started to go down. He wasn't himself for about a week or so and barely slept. Took him to GP when COVID test was neg, he said it sounded like a typical childhood viral infection that doesn't really affect adults and that he could have picked it up anywhere when out walking. It was a LONG week, hope your DS feels better soon and it's nothing serious x

NerrSnerr · 12/04/2021 12:34

He needs a PCR if he has symptoms.

Suzi888 · 12/04/2021 16:30

Sorry he’s still poorly Sad always worse at night.
