What can I get for sores in nostrils?

I've had it years and it never goes away, seen a doctor who said it's nothing to worry about but I'd like something to stop it happening. Weirdly my husband gets the same thing!

Can anyone recommend anything to stop
It?

I get this when the weather changes - I think when it is drier. Are yours from something like that or is it an infection? I liberally slather Vaseline up my nose overnight !! Horrible sensation but it really really helps with the pain and healing .

I used to suffer frequently with sores in my nose, styes and whitlows. My doctor prescribed Naseptin for my nose which cleared it quickly. Thankfully I haven't had one for years.

That’s so odd OP, I never thought about it but my DH and I have the same thing too Hmm

I’ve had it for years now, the only time it went away for a period of time was when I was abroad in a hot and humid climate. I guess in this climate the sore never gets time to heal.

Things to try:

  1. some kind of healing cream applied over night and for long enough to allow the sore to heal completely
  2. Humidifier at night

I had these years ago, and as far as I recall they are contagious (hence several family members having them) and you need a prescription of naseptin (or the present equivalent) to clear them.

LongHairDontCare38 · 11/04/2021 21:07

I get them when I have cold sores. I've found taking L-Lysine has cleared both u

Mine was from Staphylococcus Aureas which lives harmlessly on the skin, but can cause infections in cuts or wounds. It is contagious which is why your husband also suffers the same. It can go on its own, but sometimes needs antibiotics.

OneMillionSteps · 11/04/2021 21:09

I had Naseptin for this too

Zancah · 11/04/2021 21:10

I get this all the time, but I have a tube of
prescription fucidin antibiotic cream left over from when my dd had a skin issue that clears it up no problem (yy I know you shouldn't use other peoples medicines but it's bloody handy stuff to have!)

Haggisfish · 11/04/2021 21:11

Yy to naseptin or similar. It’s prescription only. Ask Gp
For it and don’t be fobbed off.

Huginamugg · 11/04/2021 21:21

I get this too. It's very uncomfortable, burning, stinging pain and feels like a massive cold sore up my nose.
I didn't know there was anything to treat it, so good to know.

TheNestedIf · 11/04/2021 21:24

Germoline helps with my nostrils that have had to cope with extreme outdoor conditions and mild overuse of nasal sprays. May help with sores.

DareIask · 11/04/2021 21:30

If it's staph aureus something like Bactroban

hogu · 11/04/2021 21:59

Oh seems to be a common thing then! Right I'll ring my go this week and see if I can get something for it, it's a bloomin pain!!
Thanks everyone

In the meantime, sudocrem on a cotton bud, swipe all around quite thickly, leave on overnight. Certainly helps with soreness and if the breaks are quite small might be enough to get healing going while you are waiting for your prescription.
