Total accident, not his fault but it was part of a dinner service (do peop!e even have them anymore?) Called sarahs garden and its really pretty. My mum bought it for me, she died suddenly 17 months ago and i want to cry. Silly. Not upset with Dh at all.

Could you glue it and put a plant in?.

CormoranStrike · 11/04/2021 19:10

That’s a real shame, I hope you can find a replacement.

SheldonesqueHasTheWeevils · 11/04/2021 19:11

There may be one on eBay at the mo but it is £55 ..

I know this isn’t about the gravy boat but your mum.

Lovely - she is all round you. In everything you do and everywhere you are. Flowers

AsterixGoesCamping · 11/04/2021 19:12

I get it @Wildswimming3.

It’s not the gravy boat. It’s the link with your mum, like a bit of her has gone.

((Hugs))

I know it's not your one but there are secondhand ones for sale ...

Thanks

Sorry to hear that. It's like part of your memory of your mother was in that set, and he broke it. That happens in life. My kids have broken so many things I have that I would count as precious. From before they were even born, and then they break it and it's no big deal to them.
If he's worth it, let it go. Wishing you strength, and sorry for your loss.

Arbadacarba · 11/04/2021 19:14

Sorry to hear this OP. I second the suggestion to mend it and use it as a planter (or something to keep small odds and ends in) if it's at all repairable.

BadEyeBri · 11/04/2021 19:33

Hey OP, really sorry about your breakage. I totally understand the significance. If a replacement isn't possible you could have a look at Kintsugi repair. The Japanese repair broken pottery with gold. It's beautiful.

[quote Sparklfairy]This one?

Thats it 😀 dh has found it too. Unfortunately it smashed on a hardwood floor so not repairable. As you say its more that my mum boughf it than the actual thing. I listen to radio 2 all day and the songs have been beautiful due to duke of edinburgh but a bit melancholy. Im sure this has affected how i feel about my mums death, so a small thing meant much more.

Save the pieces and make them into a mosaic drinks coaster maybe? Cork base and ceramic glue.

Wildswimming3 · 11/04/2021 20:58

I like that idea, although im not good at crafts

Op I’m so sorry about the gravy boat

More than anything though I’m really sorry you lost your mum. Grief is very hard and it’s so natural to feel the way you do today Flowers

FishyMcFishyfingersFace · 11/04/2021 21:05

So sorry about your gravy boat OP. What about finding a use for the bits? As you say you're not that crafty, why not find a different way to use it? Find a nice planter\plant pot that reminds you of your mum and plant something in remembrance of her in it and use the broken gravy boat pieces in the bottom for drainage, or another idea someone comes up with, I am sure there will be plenty of ideas from MNers.

Knittedfairies · 11/04/2021 21:08

Or apply for Kirsten to fix it in 'The Repair Shop'?

FlatEarthling · 11/04/2021 21:10

It's a lovely gravy boat, your mum had nice taste.
Buy another one, that's probably what your mum would say.

EscapeTheCastle · 11/04/2021 21:12

I sobbed when I broke 2 tea plates that belonged to my Gran and Grandad. Even though I had loads of them. Bought two more on china search and cheered up.

Wildswimming3 · 11/04/2021 21:24

Youre all so helpful and kind. Im going to try and make something with the bits
