Can you suggest some little gifts for 9yo girls?

It's my kids' 9th birthday (twins) in a few weeks and it looks like we are going to be in lockdown (not UK) so, same as last year, it'll be a party at home with me and that's about it. Last year I did them each a treasure hunt with little pocket money-type toys as the treasure and they really enjoyed it. I'd like to do the same this year but I'm struggling to think what to use for the treasure. We've still got chocolate left over from Easter so I don't really want it to be sweets... can you suggest me any ideas for some small bits and pieces they might like?

Home Bargains is my go to for small treats for DD like hair bands, lip gloss, stationery, small blind bag type toys etc.

Seeline · 11/04/2021 11:27

Any form of stationery - glittery pens, rubbers, colouring pencils, notebooks etc
Hair ties, clips etc
Soaps, bubble bath etc
Small toys - yo-yo, cars, ball, etc
Travel sets of games, cards etc
Seeds for the garden, indoor pots
Socks
Comics, puzzle books, colouring books

How about some stretchy choker necklaces like these:

www.amazon.co.uk/AoedeJ-Necklace-Stretch-Elastic-Multi-Color/dp/B0881RXYPZ/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=back+plastic+choker+necklaces&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1618136723&sr=8-5

My daughter loved these at that age.

lucysmam · 11/04/2021 11:31

My youngest is a little bit older but likes stuff like stickers, highlighters, glittery gel pens from Poundland, bath bomb, own shower gel that's a bit nicer than what I'd buy us to share, chalks for paths.

Do they like to bake? Sprinkles & decoration type bits (although using them would probably include you!).

Little bit of money? Mine likes her own to spend when we do go out.

Ylvamoon · 11/04/2021 11:32

Thinking about their age, could you do a spy theme with riddls where they have to collect clues? And then maybe have 2- 3 bigger "presents" again with clues incorporated leading to their actual birthday presents?

I do something similar for an advent calendar, my kids are teens they love it!

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 11/04/2021 11:33

We always do a birthday treasure hunt to find the birthday presents- same number of clues as age (although I changed that to letters in her name for my teen as it was getting too long!)
For other treasure hunts here the end treasure might be-
Lego - blind bags or small sets
Book
Sticker book
Colouring book
Stationery
Bouncy ball
Seeds to plant
But mostly the snack I was going to feed them anyway Grin

Dressinggownchic · 11/04/2021 11:34

Bath bomb
Any stationary
Lip balm
Hair accessories
Nail polish
Bubbles
Pin badges

Best party bags have one nice thing not loads of little bits, so a nice book or colouring book?

I think many parents/families are sick of all the stuff that we get given.

I'd rather have sweets than small gifts.

Oh FFS, I didn't read the op properly did I? I'm sorry ignore me!

A set of shrinkies (ebay) each. A5 sheets of plastic they can trace onto then bake in the oven and they shrink. Very enjoyable.

Books.

Stationary.

Packet of cress seeds to grow.

Oh don't worry, I phrased it really confusingly!

Thanks for the ideas everyone, that's awesome. I've ordered a few wee things now. My mind was just totally blank. It's been virtually the whole 12 months everything has been shut here, I've forgotten what shopping is even like!

Agree with everything suggested so far. Also my DD used to love different keyrings to put on her school bag at that age.

toomuchtooold · 11/04/2021 13:34

Thinking of books... what are your girls of similar age reading? The kids have picked up reading in English in lockdown and I'm dying to come back to the UK and let them go mental in Waterstones but it's going to be a while before that happens. One loves the Rescue Princesses and anything animal related, the other is big into Amelia Fang and enjoys having the classics read to her. But that's just based on what I've picked myself the last time we were in the UK, which was nearly 2 years ago...

My daughter loved Chris Riddell books. Either the Ottoline series or Goth Girl.

Depending on their English you might need to read to them but they’re beautiful books to share.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 11/04/2021 16:20

Theres a trilogy my dd (9) loves - A Pinch of Magic / A Tangle of Spells / Sprinkle of Sorcery. Great books!

Rockbird · 11/04/2021 16:37

DD2 (9) loves the Witch Wars books. And everything suggested upthread.

domesticslattern · 11/04/2021 16:54

Magic worm on an invisible string.
Lego minifigures.
Silly putty.
Compass.

SocraticJunkieWannabe · 11/04/2021 17:36

Re books - if one is into animals has she read any Holly Webb books - mostly animal based.
Also, The Worst Witch books? Murder Most Unladylike series? Or How to Train Your Dragon series? (You may need to read to them depending on their English)

Dressinggownchic · 12/04/2021 10:03

DD loves David Walliams, Roald Dahl and randomly David Baddiel books at the moment. Tom fletchers Christmasaurus books essential for Nov/Dec.
