Shoes for a child - like crocs but with better soles? Do they exist?

I don't think this deserves to be in Style&Beauty Grin

My autistic 10 yr old loves Crocs. Getting him to wear shoes at all is a massive battle and he basically lives in Crocs in summer and wellies in winter. But, the sole on Crocs is so slippy and dangerous when they're wet that I really need to find an alternative before he slips over one more time and starts refusing to wear them too!

So... like Crocs, but with a decent grip on the sole... Are they a thing? Main requirements are that they are lightweight, dry fast, and can be put on without having to use hands to help them on or fasten them (he won't wear shoes that he can't just shove his feet into and my life is too short to argue over it). I don't really care what they cost because he doesn't go to school and isn't into fashion, so these will be his only shoes (other than wellies) until they wear out.

PS he is a size 4, so kids or adults shoes are both worth me looking at!

Birkenstock’s do a range of plastic sandals.

I'm not clever enough to do a link but if you look at Mountain Warehouse they sell a lightweight sandal that is enclosed over the toes and has a good sole. I buy them every year for the kids. They are called Bay Junior.

Nope, he wouldn't wear any of the walking type sandals, because they need undoing and pulling on and then doing up again. I've tried and given up!

Crocs do non slip ones for chefs etc. www.crocs.co.uk/c/crocs-at-work/culinary-professional

Do you find the sole is slippy even when they are new?
I’m trying to think laterally. Smile Ours lose grip when they are old but otherwise I’ve never noticed a problem. What surface are they slipping on? I wonder if you can do anything about it, is it a bit of decking that you can add some anti slip stuff to etc?

4PawsGood · 11/04/2021 08:36

I think Weatherwax has fixed it for you though!

BoobsOnTheMoon · 11/04/2021 08:40

OMG WeatherwaxLives you absolute genius, I did not know that and he will LOVE the lava or lightening print ones!!! I searched and searched for "crocs with proper soles" but didn't think of trying "non slip crocs" - doh. Thank you, about to order some now Flowers

You're welcome OP Smile

I'm quite taken with the lightning ones myself!

Can I just pop on here to tell @WeatherwaxLives how much I love her username?

Glad you got sorted OP - my autistic daughter will only wear Crocs or (non-wellie) boots too.

WeatherwaxLives · 11/04/2021 09:14

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal thank you Smile

I rather like yours, too!

My god how I cried reading The Shepherd's Crown Sad.
