Where is the best place to buy a new TV from these days?

Is been ages since I bought one and I think it was from ASDA.

There isn't much wrong with it but it's only 38inches and I have to squint to read the listings.

I'm going to treat myself to a bigger one and move the current one to my bedroom.

Best place , most common place or cheapest place? The common ones most people go to are John Lewis and Currys

BluntlySpoken · 11/04/2021 00:10

Ao we got ours.

Costco dad got his

JackieWeaver · 11/04/2021 00:12

If you have a nectar card linked to Argos, then it would get you a few points as well.

Other than Argos, I would choose Currys or John Lewis, but I would always price check.

EvilOnion · 11/04/2021 00:13

I got mine from Tesco (Blaunpunkt brand) about 6 years ago, nothing fancy but reasonably priced and does what it needs to do so can't fault it.

MiloAndEddie · 11/04/2021 07:54

Depends what kind of thing you want: top quality, new technology etc then JL or Richer Sounds.
Not really bothered about sound quality, picture quality etc then supermarkets or Argos will do the job

TroysMammy · 11/04/2021 07:57

If you are squinting to read the listings an opticians appointment would be cheaper. I have difficulty watching programmes like Pointless without my specs and we've got a big tv.

BluTangClan · 11/04/2021 08:37

I go to Richer Sounds for my televisions.
All the on screen text, programme guides and displays are designed for big TV's. We've got a 38 inch (I think) and I can't read the scores or times on sports matches.

aretherereally4Hs · 11/04/2021 08:39

We got ours from John Lewis as it was the same price as one from currys but had a 5 yr warranty instead of 2

DinosaurDiana · 11/04/2021 08:39

We get ours from Currys/PC World. Never had a problem.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 11/04/2021 08:42

Choose the TV you want first, then do the price comparison. Get it from the cheapest place but, like PP, take into account warranties.

BluTangClan · 11/04/2021 08:44

There's a screen size guide here.
Recommended size for distance you sit from it.

Ok.

I wear glasses, I am short sighted and the TV is too far away/small. I don't need new glasses, a bigger TV will do.

I've always been skint so I've bought the cheapest 'it will do' TV. Never spent more than £200.

I have about £500-600 to buy something better.

For instance my current TV needs a sound bar because the sound is so bad but I'm not sure if that's all flat screens.

That guide says 48-50 inch and I've been looking at 50".

I was going to say Richer Sounds too, we bought one last year and they matched a cheaper price from a company online, have good knowledge of the products and were very good to deal with.

Arrierttyclock · 11/04/2021 18:23

Just got a 65inch one from AO. Really good deals.

Arrierttyclock · 11/04/2021 18:24

@Pumpkinstace just seen you need a sound bar, when we brought our TV we got £200 off a sound bar so there might be some other deals like that

MiloAndEddie · 11/04/2021 18:31

I tend to find the sound on cheaper ones is poor. I bought a cheap Sharp one from Tesco for our bedroom and even in a small room it was muffled and shit

Starisnotanumber · 11/04/2021 18:47

AO have a budget shop called elek direct online. Some of the TVs have slight cosmetic damage but they still have full warrenty etc.
If you are hanging the TV on the wall some don't have stands and they are usually much cheaper
They deliver free as well under 55 inch

Pumpkinstace · 11/04/2021 19:46

I'm not sure if I'm making myself clear.

I don't want a budget TV. I'm not a poor as I used to be.

I suppose I'm asking what is the best type of TV for £600?
Do I pay slightly more for a decent brand or does that not matter?
