I know lots have a takeaway, which I've never really done. Just looking for ideas for quick, and nice.

(Struggle to get takeaway delivered where I am, and cba to pick it up)

Do you mean a 'go to' Saturday dinner ... ie; the same sort of thing every Saturday?

I've made lasagne tonight ... not particularly exciting Grin.

inmyslippers · 10/04/2021 17:51

My pre schooler is fond of wiggly worms. Which works well for me I'm trying to shift some weight

idontlikealdi · 10/04/2021 17:53

We're having Nando's fakeaway tonight - chicken in pitta, fries, macho peas. I want the real thing but it's always been soggy by the time it gets delivered

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 10/04/2021 17:55

If I cook on Saturdays it tends to be either steak & chips (sometimes slice the steak and put in a panini) with fried onions and pepper sauce and veg. Or pizza (homemade)

picklemewalnuts · 10/04/2021 17:55

We have an 'easy' tea. Something like ready meal of some kind. I cook every other night, and do a brunch Saturday morning.

If I've been organised, there will be left over spag Bol or chilli available with no effort. Otherwise a ready meal.

ImFree2doasiwant · 10/04/2021 18:04

@Ragwort yes! I meant a "go to".

I'd live a lasagne but don't consider it to be quick!

Chicken kievs, chips, coleslaw and corn on the cob. Was delicious and easy as it went in the oven for 30 minutes and ta da!

gingercat02 · 10/04/2021 18:11

We always have takeaway on Friday night so I quite enjoy doing something more complex on Saturday however we do often have family friendly food like fajitas. Tonight we are having burgers with all the sides and a film as it is the last proper night of the Easter holidays

YetAnotherWalk · 10/04/2021 18:11

We definitely don't have a "go to" meal for a specific night though. Seems to school dinner-ish to me to have a set night to eat a certain meal, though I'm sure it works for some.

Woodlandbelle · 10/04/2021 18:14

I usually make something like a curry on Friday evening and we have the leftovers Saturday as its lovely the next day. Today it was bognese but I know that's a mid week dinner really. Also I try and have break from cooking. But I do pizza for the dc.

If I wanted something nice I would cook a steak

YoBeaches · 10/04/2021 18:17

We often do takeaway on Saturday as night off from cooking but otherwise it would be chicken fajitas, homemade curry or fish n chips from the freezer or steak for me and something else for dh

soupey1 · 10/04/2021 18:24

Pizza, either homemade or from the fresh counter at Asda, it is the one meal we don’t sit at the dining table to eat.

AlexandraPeppernose · 10/04/2021 19:57

I like something junkie on a Sat night. Tonight we had Korean fried chicken.

ElsasFrozenVerucca · 10/04/2021 20:03

We tend to have takeaway or Fakeaway on Fridays and a roast or big meal on Sunday, Saturday we have a big brunch, a smaller lunch, and usually the kids get to tuck into their treats in the evening (leftover Easter eggs at the mo) so just something light. I'm a big fan of chicken nugget or fish finger wraps, a big salad like pasta salad or taboulleh or tuna Nicoise, or some nice sea food pasta on a Saturday. Something quick easy tasty.

FreeButtonBee · 10/04/2021 20:08

We do takeaway on Friday (maybe twice a month and normally just me and DH as the kids are small)

Saturday we try to eat together if we can. Saturday dinners are the likes of:

Steak and chips
Homemade lasagne
BBQ
Spiced chicken with pitta humus salad
Chilli con carne with all the trimmings
HM curry
Big Asian feast (so lots of starter bits plus noodles and gyoza)

Arrierttyclock · 10/04/2021 20:09

We were going to have nachos and chilli fajitas but were so full after the ba

Arrierttyclock · 10/04/2021 20:09

Nachos* so having them tomorrow night instead

Vooga · 10/04/2021 20:12

DP and I have a nice dinner on Saturdays after DD is in bed. Either a takeaway, 'posh' ready meal like a Waitrose meal deal type thing or very occasionally pick up from a restaurant but that's quite expensive and a bit of a drive to the nearest big town where the restaurants are.doing that. We did have a fantastic tapas feast a few weeks ago though.

The main goal is to not cook as we have a drink too and I don't want to come down to a trashed kitchen on Sunday morning.

Vooga · 10/04/2021 20:13

Oh we do have steak and chips quite often on a Saturday too, but that's not too much cooking.

Graphista · 10/04/2021 20:56

I've just had pesto pasta tonight as the pasta (fresh) had to be used.

But other weekend favourites are :

Homemade pizza - I buy based and make my own tomato topping (make in batches and freeze or stick in fridge) then add whatever toppings I fancy and grated cheese

Wraps

superking · 10/04/2021 20:58

Steak and chips, curry (I use the spice tailor kits), fajitas. Steak and chips wins out if you want quick and nice!

suzzze · 10/04/2021 21:03

We sometimes have a fry up on a Saturday night. Also do a quick Penne Arribiatta (chopped tomatoes, garlic, chilli, onion, chicken stock) and throw on a garlic bread from the freezer

Graphista · 10/04/2021 21:07

Posted too soon argh!

Wraps - I get Quorn sliced fillets (like cooked sliced chicken fillets idea) I get the plain ones but you can get flavoured, Tesco do a yummy guacamole style topping thing in a squeezy bottle so I have wraps with the sauce, fillets, some sliced sweet peppers and some grated cheese

Takeaways here have gone bonkers it's impossible to get a decent delivery on a weekend now without it taking hours and arriving freezing! So I order in my grocery shop sometimes the kind of thing I'd get from a takeaway - fried rice, spring rolls, samosas, bhajis, gyoza, pakora, onion rings, Brie bites, sushi etc and they're usually either ready to eat or don't need much fuss to heat up.
