Hi I have just applied for DLA for my son who is 4 who has complex sensory needs, mobility problem, he has a awkward walk which cause him to fall and possible ADHD. Going thorough the process of being diagnosed and looking into mobility issues. They received my form on the 31st march 21. Just wondering what the likely outcome will be and waiting times. Thanks

Hi just wondered how you got we are still awaiting a decision and our forms were received end of March x

MissMarks · 13/05/2021 18:37

I don’t think you will get an adhd diagnoses on the NHS at 4.

Sengland01 · 13/05/2021 18:58

Hi LadyGar I received a text message on the 1st April to say my son will receive DLA which only took 4 weeks. He got middle rate care and no mobility but am going to appeal the care bit as needs looking after in the middle of the night as wakes up generally twice a night so the doctors are doing me a letter to state this. I received a back payment on the 6th may so all in all not too long a wait from when they received my form on the 31st March, to making and a decision to then payment on the 6th May. Hope that helps. All the best x

Sorry I meant the 3rd May i got a text to say I will get DLA not the 1st April. I then got payment on the 6th May. I only got the letter to confirm it all yesterday so definitely keep checking your bank which is how I found out. So from receiving the forms to a decision was 4 weeks.

Thank you our forms were received 29 March and when I called Monday they had still not be assigned a case worker ☹️

Abwill · 22/05/2021 11:36

@Sengland01 have you heard anything about the mr , we got awarded mrc amd lrm at son is 7 similar needs to your son ,but i feel its been overlooked that he wakes numerous times in the night and is likely to be entitled to hrc , but im worried if i do the mr that all could be lost or we could be awarded less

LadyGar · 22/05/2021 12:34

We haven’t heard a thing 10 weeks next week apparently it’s with a decision maker so not sure how long that will take x

Sengland01 · 22/05/2021 13:48

Abwill I am appealing. Further details have come to light. I have middle rate care and no mobility. However he is 5 next month and my awarded is only up to then, so perhaps that means he will get low mobility when he is 5. We went to doctors about his walk and they said there is something wrong with his legs so he will need an operation or leg braces. I am picking up a doctors letter next week to explain his waking up at night and also now his appointment at the hospital which has come through for next month. I am also getting the school to write another letter to compare a 4 year old to my son so they will have 2 further letters and the hospital appointment letter as further evidence. Even if it is less it not that much compared to what he should be having so I am going to go for it on the basis of the new evidence and his needs. Hope that helps.

Abwill I sometimes think they give you the first offer but if you believe it is not right then definitely appeal it. I have the form printed off and will completing it this week to get it back before the 4 week deadline along with the doctors letter and the senco letter from school. The doctors are going to explain his sleeping and his general insomnia which I believe is from his adhd. He was awake for 2 hours the other night and then I have to get up and go to work. It's really not right and feel like i have a one year old and not a nearly 5 year old. I think just blast them with all the evidence you can get your hands on. I have had to pay £22 for a private doctors letter but feel like it might get the point across while I am waiting for further tests and a diagnosis.

@Sengland01 hello lovely how arw you getting on im still awaiting to hear back from mr i gave them a ring and did it amd also sent a letter of what i discussed on the phone so it was in writing , i really hope he gets awarded hrc it would help with his therapys so much , the only reason he wasnt awarded it was because dm felt his night needs were setteled beforw bed even though i said he wakes numerous times and needs resettlement, so i asked that they checked what i said had not been over looked as he wakes at all hours after the house has gone to bed so fingers crossed it will be rectifyed well i hope so x

LadyGar · 03/06/2021 17:35

Hi

My sons was finally awarded MRC and lower mobility so thankfully we can get his therapy sorted.

Hope you get things sorted soon x

Abwill · 03/06/2021 17:56

@LadyGar hello thanks for your message , was this on mr ? If so did it take long we currently are awarded mrc and lrm but i felt his night needs were over looked and on checking i was right when i read the report so asked them to look again x

LadyGar · 03/06/2021 18:04

This is the first ever claim for DLA he probably would at a push qualify for the HR but we were just thankful really for any assistance towards the things we think will help him x

NicolaG1988 · 06/06/2021 18:46

Hiya,

Can I ask you how long it took from you returning the forms to then getting put on the system? I sent them back 3 weeks ago and they are saying they still haven’t received them. Xx

LadyGar · 07/06/2021 07:10

I think they are in the process of a system change which is why things are taking so long. Did you send the docs tracked ?

I can’t remember how long it took for them to put on the system but in total it took around 12 weeks for a decision x

If he is awake for 2 hours a night, has your doctor not offered any assistance with that? There are plenty of methods to try with the final step being medication. With Adhd it's helpful to get some extra exercise/sensory input in but earlier in the day, not before bed as it's too stimulating. No screens a few hours before bed, etc etc the doctor will give you a sleep hygiene pack to follow if that doesn't work you should be offered melatonin which helps them wind down and feel sleepy. There's one thats taken multiple times or a slow release one that works throughout the night.

SinkGirl · 07/06/2021 08:25

That really varies by area - my twins both get HRC and we’ve been waiting two years to see the sleep clinic, and they are the only ones who can prescribe melatonin (one is under 5 different consultants).

They only got MRC at first - took me about 18 months to gather evidence of night time needs. Evidence from social care OT really helped.

Now about to apply for HRM under the SMI rules. Again very challenging to prove all the criteria but crossing my fingers.

NicolaG1988 · 07/06/2021 08:36

Unfortunately I stupidly put them straight into the post box without even thinking about sending them recorded delivery 😔 DLA have advised that I maybe fill in a new form but it’s a lot of work to do all again x

SinkGirl · 07/06/2021 08:46

I always just put mine in the post box and have never had an issue - try not to worry.

Quick tip for everyone - get Adobe scan on your phone and use the phone camera to scan your form and every letter you get when you get them. Saves so much time for DLA, EHCP etc etc

Sengland01 · 07/06/2021 14:19

Abwill. They received the Mandatory Reconsidion form on the 26th May. I called them last Friday and the man said it will take 6 weeks for a decision to be made but hoping its faster than that. I included a letter for the senco at school with regards to slepping and his walk, a private letter from the doctors as further evidence has come to light as he may need an operation on his legs or leg braces. We currently have no mobility. A letter from the hospital with his appointment. A further letter from the doctors to the hospital as to why he needs an appointment. A further speech and language assessment. I said I have new evidence on my son's condition and said will review it and write to me. I hope it is not too long for both of us. Smile

Sengland01 · 07/06/2021 14:22

Allteaallshade. I have had no help from the doctors once to say it could be asmonia but no further information or help so quite difficult to prove sleep problems. The senco has put in her letter about his sleep and he is tired in school. Wi see.what happens I guess.

OP posts:
Sengland01 · 24/06/2021 10:05

I got a letter back from the DLA to say they have changed their decision to higher rate care and low rate mobility, so definitely worth doing the Mandatory Reconsideration. Good luck to everyone going through applying or appealing a decision. Smile

I’ve applied for DLA for my 2 year old who has a heart condition on a pathway for adhd and autism aswell as moderate hearing loss I have sent off all evidence to support this but the doctors and Auidology at the hospital it’s been around 10 week now and still no decision has been made yet, I’m posting just because I’m wanting to hear other peoples stories if they’ve been in similar situation have you been awarded or not etc x
