Yes, wear Kent. Tunbridge Wells isn’t quite as lovely as it used to be, Sevenoaks is that much closer to London but much smaller that TW. Little villages like hawkhurst, groombridge etc.. are very affluent and beautifully kept. Tonbridge is considered to be getting posher!

Findahouse21 · 10/04/2021 13:29

I think it's like everywhere, all towns have the dodgy bits and affluent areas. Medway for instance has million pound houses not far from much more deprived areas. Canterbury and the surrounding villages are lovely but also quite studenty/touristy (great for some if you like that vibe). Kings Hill is okay but for me feels completely soulless as a huge housing estate.

QuentininQuarantino · 10/04/2021 13:29

*west not wear. Primary or secondary? They have grammar schools - tonbridge has 2 girls’ and one boys’ - it’s also home to tonbridge boys private school. Tunbridge Wells has two boys’ grammars and one girls’ grammar. Some of the grammars are extra selective so you need higher 11+ marks than just passing.

I'd go for Chislehurst, Goudhurst or Cranbrook.

DogsSausages · 10/04/2021 14:13

What sort of school are they looking for, private, state, grammar, boys or girls. Do they have to take anything else into consideration like transport, shops, social life, budget.

poppycat10 · 10/04/2021 14:25

Tenterden/Rolvenden are quite nice.

I suspect Sevenoaks has the most expensive houses.

I like Cranbrook and Goudhurst.

Chislehurst is nice if you want to be more south east London.

There are also nice villages near Maidstone.

It’s obvious.... @GloomyWaters just wants to know where she can’t live!

Chislehurst Westerham Keston
Some places in Kent are only in Kent by the address as they are in the London Borough of Bromley. So only an issues if you require grammar schools. Bromley isn't a grammar area and only has one girls and one boys selective school both in Orpington.

Cheaper parts of Kent will be the 5 Medway - Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham, Rainham and Strood. But as PP said there will be lovely houses and parts to all areas.

More affluent would be Sevenoaks, Tunbridge wells, Chislehurst ( which is Bromley). Many of the villages, but it really depends on what facilities you want?

Growing up I always thought Tonbridge was grim ( I went to college there) , but my parents have recently moved to a village near to there and seem to think it's nice 🤷‍♀️ so it's all matter of opinion.
