Scottish inheritance laws...

Can anyone tell me a bit about Scottish inheritance laws please? I've had a google and from what I have found looks like there are laws on distribution of assets after death. Is there anyway around this?

Do you mean Legal Rights? Some people (eg kids) can’t be excluded from a deceased person’s estate regardless of what’s in a Will. They cannot, if excluded, claim legal rights on a house but can claim legal rights on moveable estate.

No, there is no way round this if that person chooses to claim their legal rights. It’s the law.

I don’t particularly know about the law but we have had this in our family. I received a letter from my brother’s solicitor on the day of my mum’s funeral advising me he intended in claiming his legal rights. My mother didn’t leave anything to him in her will. Only her grandchildren.

I am just adding that from my point of view, it screams greed to me. I find it all distasteful but I have only experienced the negative side of a family fall out. I can’t see there being a positive side of it really.
