Anyone use Go Henry for their kids?

Six year old is quite keen to start doing little jobs for pocket money. I’ve seen this advertised and wondered if anyone else uses it?

Is it just like a debit card they can use?

Also how much pocket money do you give kids of that age? She and her sister got some money for Easter (£50 between them so not a massive amount) and she’s been talking about what to do with it (spend her half, put together for a toy, save it etc) and I feel this is a good wee teaching moment.

Yes we do.

It’s expensive (£2.99 per child per month) but for the ease has been worth it for us.

My dc (8 & 7) get £2 a week. When they get birthday money etc that goes on too.

It has really made a difference to their attitude to budgeting, saving money etc. They have developed a very good understanding of how much they have, how much to save & so on. And they love using their cards independently to buy things.

Before I might say to them they had £3 to spend in a shop for example & they would find something that cost more & negotiate me up. Now they have complete ownership over it they are much more aware of cost of things & sticking to their budget. They consider their purchases far more.

We used to use Osper. Was much cheaper than go Henry.

Oh I should have said, £1 of their pocket money is guaranteed, then they do jobs & musical instrument practice to earn the other £1.

Thanks that’s helpful. Think I’ll sign her up.

I used to and it was great, she wasted money a lot less. Pocket money wise shes got £1 per year of her age per week since she was 5. Now shes 12 she can earn extra by doing extra chores and can lose some of her basic rate if she doesnt keep her room tidy. Shes really, really good with money now (much better than me!) so I will keep this system with my younger girls too, I feel like it's worked really well

I used to, but then I switched to Revolut Junior which doesn't have a monthly fee!

It's a great idea in principle, but I just couldn't pay £36pa on a card, especially when the amounts being paid in are relatively small anyway.

Yes, we use GoHenry. Same as @floobydo it's encouraged money awareness and good habits. It's also good to have a card for buying stuff online eg in-game purchases eg "You can buy this if you spend your own money that you saved up, and use your card". Go for it.
