What is this on my child’s leg?

My child (age 8) has this rash / white spots on their leg.
It’s been there for a few weeks.
Doesn’t really hurt or itch. But sore when rubs on clothes.
Anyone know?
Sadly I am totally unable to get through to my GP for the last 5 days to even ask for an appointment (let alone get one as this is non urgent) if you go there they just say to phone up and get lucky but I have called dozens of times and the queue is always full.
Sad state of affairs at the moment really. Covid plus too many houses in our area and not enough services (and they are building 100’s more but that’s another thread!)
So mumsnet it is!
Any ideas?

Ask the chemist? I don’t see anything in your photo.

weareallpassengers · 09/04/2021 09:34

No idea..I would nip to a chemist personally

Are they blistered?

Has your DS had chicken pox? If so, could be shingles.

Agree with PP - ask your pharmacist for advice.

I can't really tell from the picture but could it be molluscum?

Ledkr · 09/04/2021 09:39

Molloscum

Vintagegoth · 09/04/2021 09:39

Could be the start of molluscum. As the spots get older they get a telltale dimple in the middle.

Blimeyoreilly2020 · 09/04/2021 09:41

Seconding molluscum - it’s a pain to get rid of but harmless.

DancesWithDaffodils · 09/04/2021 09:41

Molluscum was my thought too.

duvetdreaming · 09/04/2021 09:46

@DancesWithDaffodils

Molluscum was my thought too.
And mine
MrsWooster · 09/04/2021 09:52

Molluscum. Very slow to get rid of -like, months slow. We tried tea tree oil cream which kept dd’s from getting manly when they got picked burst, and may have speeded things up a bit.

MrsWooster · 09/04/2021 09:53

Manky, not manly.

Howshouldibehave · 09/04/2021 09:55

My first thought was moluscum-I’d pop and see what the pharmacist says.

DS’s friend had this at a similar age and was absolutely covered in them-they were the most bizarre things, used to get bigger and then burst. Lasted for about 9 months and then went all of a sudden disappeared almost overnight.

Quit4me · 09/04/2021 09:56

Oh brill- haven’t considered mollloscum
Yes been through chicken pox a few year ago so not that- white spots too white and small (and too close together on one patch)
I will try pharmacy - it’s just a case of getting there and waiting outside in queue with other kids 😩
Also I don’t think my child would be up for taking their trousers off in the pharmacy so not sure wether they would go on a photo or not

Put them in shorts (and a coat!) just for the trip to the chemist.
Herbie0987 · 09/04/2021 09:59

Most chemists have a consulting room.

Quit4me · 09/04/2021 10:07

@Howshouldibehave brilliant idea! Don’t know why I didn’t think of that! It’s been so cold, the shorts haven’t come out yet! I will dig some out
