Why is it so hard to find out if a petrol station has a car vac?

So irritating! Just the sort of thing that the Web should make easy!

Come on petrol stations! Tell us what you've got!

Just drive to it and have a look.

Rockbird · 09/04/2021 09:09

Oh my God yes! I am desperate to vacuum my car. 'Just drive to it and have a look' is time consuming and not always convenient. I could spend half a day driving round the patrol stations of my area to find one.

@Rockbird
So you frequently use petrol stations but haven’t noticed which ones have a vacuum?
Or here’s a crazy idea; phone and ask!

HerMammy · 09/04/2021 09:37

To add, nearly all the supermarket ones have vacuums.

Rockbird · 10/04/2021 09:08

For petrol I use the one down the road from me, not that crazy really Hmm

Mydogisagentleman · 10/04/2021 09:15

I want to vac my car, but none are open.
The car wash man said it’s because of COVID and multiple people handling them

HilaryBriss · 10/04/2021 10:20

Can't you just use your vacuum cleaner at home?

Says someone who presumably thinks everyone lives in nice houses with drives or garages near enough to a power source for the lead to reach the car

Can you really not see why that's not possible for everyone?

LavendulaAngustifolia · 10/04/2021 10:30

I had no idea there were petrol stations with a vacuum.

Unless OP is in a flat and her car is parked really far away from her living space, you can get a 15m extension reel for £20 from Argos. It would pay for itself soon enough between car hovering and other DIY jobs.

I don’t live in a flat, but a 15m cable wouldn’t get me from my house to the road, even if I managed to park right outside.

We’ve got a cordless vac now and I was genuinely delighted at the concept of being able to vacuum the car!

dontgobaconmyheart · 10/04/2021 10:52

Annoying isn't it. We had this issue the other day out and about, trying to source one with air and water (for the car). You could call them I suppose.

Depends on the circumstances really, if it's in your own town just ask around if people know or find one that does and go there whenever you have a need for it.

If on the road our of town then I'd just aim for larger petrol stations as they are more likely to have additional facilities.

TheCraicDealer · 10/04/2021 10:59

You can get cable reels up to 45m from screw-fix and B&Q, 25m was just an example.

No need for the sarcasm.

I live in a terraced house with no drive and on street parking only. All my neighbours stretch an extension across the pavement and use their own hoover. Sometimes they even ask each other if they can swap cars over so that they can get close enough to their house to enable the cable to reach. Also some vacuums are cordless.

So no, I am not assuming that everyone lives in mine goes with drives and/or garages.
