What to do with a load of booze.

Apart from the obvious, is there anything we can do with a load of booze? DH and I don't drink much so weve got a decade's worth of gifted booze kicking around. We decided to put it all in the garage as its taking up valuable kitchen cupboard space.

We knew there was a lot but getting it all out in one place shocked us. There are

  • 2 bottles of 12yo Glenfiddoch
  • 1 bottle burboun
  • 4 bottles various vodkas
  • 10 bottles of red wine
  • 4 bottles white whine
  • 4 bottles of champagne (including a boxed Rose Moet)
  • 4 bottles prosecco
  • 4 random cavas/fizzy plonk

I reckon there's around £400 worth - all unopened.

We'll probably get through or regift the champagne and prosecco eventually. We can pass on the fizzy plonk to the PTA when there's another school fair. But what about the rest? Would people buy it on Facebook / Gumtree? I believe foodbanks don't take it. And it'd be weird to try to give it to friends (outside of normal gifting times which are rare in our crowd).

I'll have it!

Seriously, you will have problems selling it, (licencing laws). PTA is probably your best bet.

AcornAutumn · 07/04/2021 23:31

I don't think you can legally sell it but just let your friends and neighbours know and you will be forever loved!

If you're in North London, I will happily take the vodka. I'd have taken the champagne and prosecco too!

AdaColeman · 07/04/2021 23:35

Cook with some of the wine?

Give bottles to people like postmen, bin men, etc.

If neighbours give you fruit or veg, give them a bottle in return.

Give to local charities as raffle prizes.

We gift alcohol as presents. But that's a lovely stash you have Grin I would throw a party (in the garden)

FelicityBeedle · 07/04/2021 23:43

If you’ve got a local giveaway group? Make some very happy people

Breastfeedingworries · 07/04/2021 23:46

Throw a garden party of 6 🎉

Give away, pass on to me Grin

Why do people give non drinkers alcohol and spirits as gifts? Confused

I know which of my friends and family drink and which ones don't.

Everyone knows that neither of us likes whiskey so they don't give us any.

PattyPan · 07/04/2021 23:54

When my grandad died I think my mum sold some fancy bottles of whisky in those tins he had on ebay so it's probably worth seeing if people would buy it, especially anything a bit special like the Moet.

Cocogreen · 08/04/2021 02:24

Every time you go and see family and friends, even just for a cup of tea, take them a bottle of something they drink. Maybe take an extra one for them to give to someone else!

roguetomato · 08/04/2021 06:43

My dc's school would take it all for raffle/tombola/silent auction prize.
Give it to friends/family/ neighbours who loves to drink.

DianaT1969 · 08/04/2021 07:37

Party in the garden? The PTA would probably be grateful for all for raffles.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 08/04/2021 08:28

Is it all still drinkable if ten years old?

I’d stick it in a box and put it outdoors with a note to help yourself as wouldn’t want the clutter lying around.

I don’t get why people buy non drinkers alcohol, it’s not hard to find something else.

MissTrip82 · 08/04/2021 08:31

Last time I had too much leftover after a party I took it into work and left it in the tearoom (large public hospital). Gone in seconds.

halcyondays · 08/04/2021 08:32

Send it to a local auction when they reopen, they can sell it.

Pascha · 08/04/2021 08:33

I won a bottle of whiskey in the bottle tombola at the school summer fete once. Best win ever. Give it to school.

halcyondays · 08/04/2021 08:33

The spirits will be fine, not sure Prosecco would be after ten years.

Shezlon · 08/04/2021 08:34

We have the same problem, we keep being given champagne, wine and gin. I do drink but only socially and would never open an expensive bottle at home without visitors because dh doesn't drink and I can't drink a bottle to myself. The pile is building up now we haven't had visitors for so long. Our families don't really drink much either.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 08/04/2021 08:38

We ended up with a huge stash like this, I like gin an DP likes rum so people buy it for gifts, but we only have 1 a week if that so built up multiple bottles we were never going to get through. We gave loads away by just taking a bottle with us each time we went to someone’s house (in pre covid times), and the school summer fair tombola was also well stocked.

aintnocoffeebigenough · 08/04/2021 08:38

Don’t do this - kids might take it!!!

Agree with school raffle donations etc. Would it really be that odd to offer it to a friend/neighbour? I hate rosé wine but I’ve got a friend that loves it, I always pass it on if someone buys me some. Keep the bubbly for any special occasions at your place Smile

RampantIvy · 08/04/2021 08:39

Who are these people who keep giving non drinkers alcohol? I would never give anyone an expensive bottle of wine unless I knew they were going to enjoy it.

ufucoffee · 08/04/2021 08:40

Have a garden party. Or a house party when it's allowed.

In our case, it's generally from hampers or generic gifts from people who don't know us well (from work etc).

This is the worst idea ever! I can just imagine teenage me finding that box and having a mega party! Me and DH drink socially but not in the house so as we appear to be drinkers we get gifted a lot of spirits. I regift it to people at Christmas, but also pta good donation point
RampantIvy · 08/04/2021 09:05

Corporate gifts have long since been a thing of the past where I work, sadly.
