What are you doing with DC this lockdown Easter Holidays?

Older DC ages 11 and 9.
Completely fed up with walking and playgrounds.

I’m feeling guilty that they haven’t left the house since Easter Sunday Blush (they have done exercise).

I’m attempting to force them out to a playground this morning but they are resisting (SEN) and it really isn’t worth the bother.

We are doing some sporadic crafts and baking but there is a lot of screen time.

But what else is there to do?
Is anyone else thinking the same?

Screen time and walking. Walking in slightly further afield parks now we are allowed too. It's boring and it's freezing!!! Dress up the screen time as movie afternoon with snacks and hot choc. I have booked Easter sports camp next week so only a few more days to fill!!

TheRealMrsMorningstar · 07/04/2021 16:23

We are half way through easter break now. Car was put of action for a week so no where to really go (had a train trip to next town over for a change of scenery). So much screen time, some baking and some crafts and cries of boredom on a regular basis from dd2...

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 07/04/2021 16:30

My kids are a similar age and we managed one beach day but the rest of the time we've hardly done anything. It's really cold and the oldest one really doesn't want to go anywhere at the best of time.
We've done a bit of baking but really they both want to do their own things which usually these days includes a screen. I do feel guilty when I see other friends hiking up mountains and cycling.

DS (11) has been to a couple of skate parks, met up with friends, seen his cousins. That’s about it really. We tried to go paddleboarding but it was really windy so we had to abort but at least we had a drive out for a change of scenery 😂.

LadyCatStark · 07/04/2021 16:32

Agree that the coldness and wind are really spiking this holiday though.

  • spoiling grrrr

This time I haven't organised anything but that's prob down to not feeling too well.

Yesterday I took him out to ride his bike with our dog, did creative stuff - painting and glitter, watered the plants and helped me make dinner.

Today I took him to my friends house (but kids were with their ex partner). He played with toys (I played with him too) and had lunch with us.

Tomorrow - nothing planned

Friday - I'm taking him to see his grandparents on his dads side.

Feel guilty as I have no mum friends with kids my sons age. He's 4.

We've had some thrilling highlights so far (DS 7)

  • Trip out to eat a McFlurry in the car
  • Letting him push the trolley around Aldi for a few bits (he loved this!)
  • Freezing ourselves stupid at a NT place this afternoon - we only managed an hour

Tomorrow we are making big pancakes and going to Asda C&C for a trip out! ha!

mamaduckbone · 07/04/2021 19:21

Mine are thankfully a bit older and enjoying the freedom to be able to meet friends, but as a family we've not really done anything apart from one day at the beach to visit family and one afternoon in friends' garden before it turned Baltic.
A bit of baking, the odd film and a board game or two - the rest of the time it's been screens when they're in the house, unfortunately.

Trip out to eat a McFlurry in the car

Thanks for the idea @yoshiblue. I'm going to do this tomorrow.

MarshaBradyo · 07/04/2021 20:58

Usual mostly parks but also tennis is back!

Spent four hours in one today, so cold.

yoshiblue · 07/04/2021 21:34

@Bumblebee1980a push the boat out and let them use the app to order it too!

TheChosenTwo · 07/04/2021 21:45

Hardly anything! Friday Saturday and Easter Sunday me and the 3dc were all struck down with a horrendous cold and spent most of that time in bed.
Last 2 days the older 2 dc have been out and sat in friends gardens but it’s absolutely bloody Baltic out there (of course, thanks to the fabulous weather colliding with the holidays as fucking always 🙄). I’ve taken the youngest out on a couple of walks to run errands which could easily be done in 5 minutes in the car but as there’s sod all else to do we are wasting half an hour walking in the icy winds instead.
We are going away next week though so we are all feeling excited about that.
We aren’t doing any baking as have so many treats from Easter and lots of baked goods were delivered here which need eating up as it is.
Board games, Lego, card games, some drawing and awaiting a mosaic kit for us all.
Bit bored but trying to enjoy the downtime, it’s been a manic term for all of us.

Teenage DD has a full social schedule meeting various friends in various parks around London. She's having a great time and probably wouldn't choose to do anything differently if we weren't in lockdown. It's a bit harder with DS10 and there is more screen time than I would like but he's been to a football holiday club and we're going go karting tomorrow which he will love. We'll probably do some crazy golf next week and maybe a skate park. Zoos are opening next week too.
Hope you find something you can all enjoy, OP, and fingers crossed for some warmer weather!

sanityisamyth · 07/04/2021 22:01

I bought DS a pony 2 months ago so we've spent a lot of time at the stables. National Trust places have opened up here too so we've done their Easter egg hunts a few times. He's also booked into a tennis holiday camp for one morning too. Lots of fun!

HastingsIsSuckingDiesel · 07/04/2021 22:20

We are lucky that Easter hols are this week and next week- when more things open up from the Monday.

So this week- 4 days of football camp (aka childcare!) whilst I work.

Next week I've booked tickets to some outdoor things- zoo, Karting and an adventure park thing.

Wouldn't normally spend so much money doing special stuff but the kids have done v little during lockdown.

SoftSheen · 07/04/2021 22:25

Walking, cycling, tennis, rollerblading, meeting friends and grandparents at parks/gardens, lots of reading and Lego. This afternoon DS spent 2 hours building a huge marble run. And iPad, obvs. DC are 10 and 6.

Enidblyton1 · 07/04/2021 22:25

Sports clubs and playing with friends - much the same as we’d normally do. Next week a couple of local attractions open up (outdoor museums) so we might visit.
