Credit card protection

If I am buying a large item say car for example, from an individual, not a garage. If I transfer the money from a credit card. Do I get the protection I'd normally get from using a credit card?

I don't know if that's possible but if it is I'd say no protection., Doesn't the protection come partly from the fact that the receiving person has gone through a credit card set up procedure. That wouldn't apply if you were really just transferring money to an individual

I’m not 100% on this - I’m about 95% - but I think the credit card just takes joint responsibility for the legal protection you have against the merchant. If the seller is a private seller, you’d have few rights for the CC company to share...

And it’d likely cost you a fortune to bank transfer from a credit card, unless they’re set up as a processor.

But I’ve text a few people to ask! I’ll update if I’m wrong. (Used to work in finance)

No. Credit card protection comes under section 75 of the consumer credit act, and does not apply to private sellers. It also does not apply to cash transfers or through third parties such as PayPal
