Are you letting your teens meet up with friends

With the slight ease up and the new guidelines. Are you letting your teenagers meet up with their friends?
Meeting up Outside such as the park, or a walk to town to pick up something to eat?
I actually don't want mine being the type to hang around parks anyway but we are trying to strike up a balance with them of allowing them some freedom but obviously with out breaking any of the rules and keeping them safe
What are your thoughts x

yes, of course they re meeting up with friends. Why wouldn't they, They have lost so much in the last year.

MsTSwift · 06/04/2021 14:38

We are encouraging outdoor meet ups with small groups of friends - why wouldn’t you?

RightOnTheEdge · 06/04/2021 14:43

I don't have teens yet but my younger kids played out with my neighbour's grandkids yesterday.
You can meet 6 people outside now. I've seen so many adults excited about this why should young people not be able to meet friends?

PeacheyPeach · 06/04/2021 14:44

I'm not saying Im withholding that from them I just don't particularly like the idea of them meeting up in large groups if that is against the guidelines and hanging around and coming into contact with lots of different households. Covid hasn't gone away has it so I dont want to become complacent but also don't want to keep them at home 24hrs a day . Like I said its finding a balance isn't it x

1 of mine is still meeting just 1 friend. Dd has met up with 5 others. And she had tea in bff's back garden at the week end.

MsTSwift · 06/04/2021 14:48

They are together at school, tested twice a week, rates in our area low and falling I can’t get exercised about them meeting up with their friends outdoors. Is there a particular reason you are so anxious?

Theimpossiblegirl · 06/04/2021 14:50

Rule of 6 in gardens is the balance.

PennyArcade · 06/04/2021 14:53

My DS (17) has just gone to meet his 3 best friend, who live local, for a game of footie in the park. As long as they are outdoors and causing no problem I don’t see anything wrong with it. These are the mates he’ll be with when he returns to school next week anyway.

Him and his mates turned up to help pick up the disgusting amount of rubbish left at our local beauty spot last weekend. They were not one of the thousands who gathered and caused a disturbance but they were disgusted by the rubbish left by others.

If it’s ok for them to be outdoors picking up after others it’s ok for them to have a game of footie, outdoors, in a small group of 4.

DD (20) is out walking with her best friend. Why not?

UserTwice · 06/04/2021 14:55

Minimal risk with hanging around outside.
Even if there are more than 6 of them.
They are more likely to catch Covid at school.

TenThousandSpoons · 06/04/2021 14:57

Yes, always outside (in our garden, friend’s garden or park) Sometimes with a takeaway Costa. Mostly 1:1 but dd met 3 friends in a garden at the weekend.

Yes completely agree with this. Mine goes out most days and it's lovely to see how happy he is.
TheWaif · 06/04/2021 14:59

They're allowed to meet outside. There's no balance about it. It would be crazy not to let them.

Tatum1234 · 06/04/2021 15:01

Yes mine is out most days with friends after school. I think it’s really important for their mental health

Basketandshoestore · 06/04/2021 15:02

Mine are. I'm so pleased tbh. Being cooped up with Fortnite for company is rubbish.

MyGoMargot · 06/04/2021 15:05

Yep, mine as well.
They also go to our local parks to hang out - not sure where else there is to hang out tbh!

User5747384 · 06/04/2021 15:06

Yes, only outside but they definitely need it.

User5747384 · 06/04/2021 15:08

Why do you not want your children hanging around in parks?

SocraticJunkieWannabe · 06/04/2021 15:10

Absolutely! Within the rules can't see why anyone wouldn't allow it.

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/04/2021 15:13

SIL has been allowing hers to do whatever they like (breaking guidelines). Now the son is positive and the household is isolating.

TheSultanofPingu · 06/04/2021 15:14

Yes, and I don't have a problem with him meeting friends in a park either.
There's precious little else for them to do.

pointythings · 06/04/2021 15:23

Yes - DD2 only ever meets up with her group of friends with whom she shares an office at school and with whom she shares most of her classes. No new germs there.

hamstersarse · 06/04/2021 15:25

Yes.
I'd be concerned if they didn't want to and not breaking the door down to get out

tobee · 06/04/2021 15:29

And?

Rockbird · 06/04/2021 15:31

Yes absolutely. DD1 is meeting 5 friends tomorrow in town. They'll get a Starbucks and then head to the park and probably set up camp by the big pond there and talk nonsense for a few hours Grin

PembrokeshireDreaming · 06/04/2021 15:35

Only within the rules. Some of her year group are meeting up a lot and there has been a covid outbreak among them. I'm pleased that dd and her close friends are choosing to keep to the rules.
