Looking at getting roughly 2012 reg. need a big boot which I know the Q7 has. Really can't decide which to go for.

I would be looking at the superb estate (660 litres) or trading up to a 5 series Estate in preference to the 4x4s, much lower running costs. Q7 boot is only 800l with the rear seats down
@idontlikealdi double travel system. No chance it'll fit in our bmw 3 series estate boot. If we ever want to go away we'd need to take 2 cars if we can't find something with a much larger boot.
That's why we
Got the zafira - to fit the bloody Donkey in the boot. Ugly car but we have been to France many times and loaded it up with the buggy, two Tripp trap chairs and all luggage needed for six week stretches away. Oh and ddog and sometimes nanny too. With one seat up in the boot we needed a roof box.

2014 X5...best car we've ever had. Punchy, roomy, comfortable, felt very safe.

Skoda Kodiaq has a 720l boot capacity and an optional 7 seat option. I wouldn't buy a 2012 luxury car, it'll turn into a money pit.

VW Sharan or Seat Alhambra

We've had me, DH, 2 DC in ERF seats, our double travel system, a lawnmower, a huge stock of food and 5 weeks worth of packing including many, many toys, towels, bedding etc in our Alhambra to travel back home when we lived abroad.

Plus the sliding doors. If you've got a double travel system you need the sliding doors!!
