Greece on green list?

Does anyone think it might be on the green list?

Won't the list still be subject to change though?

Not sure I can be bothered with the stress of booking and worrying about failing a test, losing the trip, things changing before leaving or whilst there. It was bad enough last year waiting for our refund.

Understand people wanting to travel for family reasons though. Its been hard.

BarbaraofSeville · 06/04/2021 06:35

It's mentioned on the green list in news reports but whether it still will be when it's legal to travel, who knows?

Remember that last year, countries were on and off quarantine lists, sometimes with a few hours notice.

And even if it's on the green list, repeated testing, at a cost, will be required.

I think islands will be green definitely and same for Balearics. I’m hopeful that holidays will be relatively straightforward by summer and will be looking at the Greek Islands for a last minute break in the holidays.

MsMiaWallace · 06/04/2021 07:21

Hope so. We're booked to go to Zakinthos 01/07.

Have they said how rapidly a country's status might change?

Looking at the third wave in Europe, I would be concerned about booking too far ahead. But if you WFH and are going in peak season so DC can be isolated without missing school, then 10 days in quarantine might not be such a consequence that you need to be risk averse.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 06/04/2021 07:27

We don't know yet but I would expect it to be at some point. Malta and Cyprus before that though.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 06/04/2021 07:33

I meant changed back to a higher level of restriction, which last summer happened on a few days notice leaving holidaymakers (and all other travellers) with a choice to rush back or face quarantine.

Third wave is still happening, and countries currently barely affected might become so as time passes.

Not posted just be a misery guts (before the typical chorus starts) - wanted to know a) if anyone does have any insight into whether review will be any different to how it was late last summer and b) to remind that levels can go up,as well as down and so holiday planning needs to include what happens in those circs

I've booked to attend a wedding in Greece in late summer. Paid the £40 covid cover so I'm not too worried if it gets reschuled for a 3rd time! I used last year's flight vouchers etc. If it goes ahead great, if not I'm not bothered. I won't be booking a normal holiday until social distancing and masks, curfews, testing etc. has been phased out, it was a PITA going abroad last year tbh.

ChessieFL · 06/04/2021 07:43

It’s really frustrating not knowing. We have a holiday booked to Corfu in August - originally booked in November 2019 for last summer and rescheduled to this year. I wish it would just get cancelled so we can make alternative plans, but as things stand it looks like I’ll have to pay the full balance (due in May) without knowing if we will actually be able to go - and even if we can go it might be with a lot of hassle (testing, quarantine). I don’t want to cancel myself because then we’ll lose the deposit, so we’re stuck in limbo at the moment. And yes I know this is a privileged problem to have but I just want to know one way or another as soon as possible.

lurker101 · 06/04/2021 07:51

I think it’s likely to be, especially if the Greek Govt. progress well with their plan to vaccinate all tourism workers by summer, you would expect it would be deemed lower risk than other countries with similar case numbers

I find it hard how people are going to be able to afford the test before and after for each person? Its like £270 extra each that's just too expensive, will people actually pay this?

BarbaraofSeville · 06/04/2021 10:16

I suppose if people have paid a lot for an expensive holiday, eg because its in peak season and/or they're going somewhere fancy, they might pay £270 pp for testing, especially if the alternative is losing their money.

I wouldn't pay it because our flights/accommodation don't usually cost much more than that for budget airline flights and a week SC or B&B out of the main season, so it's a disproportionately large amount to add to the cost of a holiday.

We didn't go anywhere last year and haven't booked anything yet this year. If we do go anywhere, it won't be until September or October now, and we won't necessarily book until we see how it all pans out over the summer. We can go at short notice (booked and went with 5 days notice a couple of years ago) and are flexible about where we go so something suitable might be available but we're not that fussed and don't want a 'restricted' holiday, eg having to book restaurants or wear a mask on the beach.

Stanley Johnson’s got a villa there so my money is on green list.

This is what is concerning me. If the choice is paying it or losing the whole cost of our holiday, then I will pay it because there isn’t really much choice! Hopefully we will at least have the option to move our holiday (again!) if the restrictions in place will add too much additional cost.
BeakyWinder · 06/04/2021 12:42

Has anything been said about how long the rule will be in place for? Our flights only cost £300 so I wouldn't want to pay £270 for a test!
