Good mattress?

Dh and I are upgrading our bed, from double to king and obviously we need a new mattress. No idea where to start! Current bed is an IKEA mattress and frame, but we don't like any of the frames they currently have.

Are the memory foam mattresses that come in a box (eve etc) any good. Or where does one go to try mattresses out? Recommendations please?

We bought an Emma mattress last year and I love it! I'm not a great sleeper but I'm sleeping so much better since we switched to this.

We bought an Emma and sent it back!! Far too thin!
Ended up with a kayflex memory foam and I love it!!

If your not stuck buying ikea, then look at hypnos, they supply mattresses for hotels. I've had one for years and its been great to sleep on.

If you like fairly firm, then have a look at Latex and some foam mattresses.

I love our fully foam Mammoth mattress. Really comfortable (and I have a serious back injury so I don't say this lightly). Stays cool. It's not memory foam (which I don't like), so it doesn't do the slow adjusting to your body which I find very painful and then struggle to turn over on. We've had it 8 years so far and still feels good as new.

We got a Hypnos from Premier Inn with a Dunelm memory foam topper last year. It’s absolutely brilliant, best bed setup I’ve ever had by miles.

I have a split king adjustable bed and use latex mattresses on it from latex sense. They last years and years without sagging. They do a trial and I think you can switch mattresses 2 or 3 times to find the right one.

@pipperleen oohhh ill have to try mine with a memory foam topper. Great tip!

Sealy mattresses are great. I’d highly recommend x

I can't make a recommendation, as I ended up not getting a new mattress after all, but when I was doing my research (end of last year) I looked at these four and looked at Blue Light discount as well, if you are an emergency service worker.

Emma Original mattress (30% Blue Light discount), 200-night trial, 10-year warranty.

Otty Hybrid mattress (35% Blue Light discount), 100-night trial, 10-year warranty.

Nectar Memory Foam mattress, 365-night trial (the longest I found), forever warranty.

Simba Hybrid mattress (40% Blue Light discount), 200-night trial, 10-year warranty.

We've got an Ikea mattress and love it. They do UK size bed frames and mattresses now so you'll be ok whatever frame you decide.

We got this one. It's wonderful.

Simba is lovely!

I have a John Lewis one I love.

Thought I'd come back just to say we are getting our new mattress tomorrow. In the end we went to Dreams (saw the advert on the TV about their machine that measures your sleeping positions then makes suggestions. Some were £££££ but we found one in budget and the saleswoman was great, insisted we lay on it for about 15 mins to check we really liked it. (She then tried to sell us pillows at £99 EACH Shockbut we said no to that!).

Bed frame we bought online came on Friday so luckily dh is off work tomorrow to set up the new stuff. We've gone from a double (last 26 years!) to King so looking forward to it very much.

Thanks for all your suggestions.
