I work for a well known clothing store and the answer is no, we have no plans to open fitting rooms yet.

dementedpixie · 05/04/2021 10:52

Wouldn't have thought so

Hollyhead · 05/04/2021 10:53

@PetronellaOsgood can you feed in to management that people are trying things on in public loos to get around this which is a much worse hygiene hazard. Please just open them!

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 05/04/2021 10:54

Wasn't it in the news this weekend that they would be open?

PilatesPeach · 05/04/2021 10:57

Doubt loos will re-open next week either. There will be little comfort or pleasure when shops re-open I feel.

I would assume not. But I never use changing rooms-I just try on at home and return where necessary.

Sad

Hollyhead we know that’s the case, the customers are quite honest in saying that’s exactly what they’re doing, all the shop floor staff are aware of it too. Unfortunately it’s a decision taken at head office level not at a local level. Believe me, it would be a lot easier for everyone to have them reopened but unfortunately not happening yet.

emilyfrost · 05/04/2021 11:04

Yes, it’s been announced in the last week that shops can open changing rooms.

However, it will be up to the individual shop so it will depend where you go. But they are allowed to.

The loos in the town where I live have all been open since the first lockdown needed and shops reopened.
Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2021 11:10

Thinking about it logically it would be very difficult and it makes sense to not open changing rooms. There will be limits to the amount of customers allowed in, queues outside etc.
If the changing rooms are full of customers trying on clothes (and lots aren't quick about it) those queues aren't going to go down very fast.

And social distancing in changing rooms would be impossible, for staff and customers.

I work for a large department store and we will be having fitting rooms open, and planning to do non-contact bra fitting

Hollyhead · 05/04/2021 11:10

@PetronellaOsgood it must be very frustrating. Hopefully we can all have something more normal soon!

Are you pulling straws for who has to man them? Sad
KittyFilter · 05/04/2021 11:19

I would think that if a shop can implement the new rules they will open them but if they can't, they won't.

It would be helpful if they could post on their website/have a sign in the window that indicates whether their changing rooms are open or not.

Longer queues for those that are open of course.

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2021 11:26

Longer queues for those that are open of course.

Yes it'll mean queues outside the store (bit sad for those 'in and out' people that know exactly what they want) because the people in there are trying on 6 month's or so worth of possible outfits. Queues for the changing rooms, and then presumably a queue to pay.

Clothes shopping online will still be an attractive option at least for the first few weeks.

Gettingthereslowly2020 · 05/04/2021 11:54

It would be great if they could open the changing rooms but have a limit of two items per person per visit. I don't understand why they don't do this. People trying things on in public toilets is disgusting and much more of a hygiene risk.

One set of toilets in my local shopping centre is already open, I used them last week. The centre is open because there's a supermarket in there and also other shops doing click and collect.
Paranoidandroidmarvin1350 · 05/04/2021 12:50

I can’t wait for them to open. It doesn’t help women’s sizes are so random. Having to buy two sizes of everything. Put it on the credit card. Take it home. Bring it back. It’s annoying. I shopped more at the shops that Have had theirs open all the time. Superdry ( love their hoodies ) have never closed.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 05/04/2021 12:53

I doubt many will. If staff are to distance themselves from customers, be behind screens, or ensure entry limits, they will not be available.

That's ridiculous why on Earth would they do this Confused

I really want to try things in in shops too, I hate ordering clothes online such a faff.
