Mooncup rides up and my cervix sits inside it

Hi, I've just started using a mooncup and for the life of me I cannot get it to stay down low where it's supposed to sit. I put it in low and it opens nicely, it feels like it's formed a seal. But after 5 mins of walking, sitting down, or, well, simply existing - it rises all the way up so that my cervix is sitting inside it.

My cervix is either normal height or highish. When the mooncup is in this position it's pretty high up inside me. I have to reach in with finger and thumb to break the seal which is quite hard work as it's so far up. (One finger down the side doesn't break the seal). I've read a few of the scare stories about prolapse from pulling out a cup while it's suctioned to the cervix and although I realise these are rare cases, I am worried because perhaps I have the rare kind of anatomy that causes this to happen.

Also I have't used it on heavy days yet, but I expect that because my cervix is sitting inside it, there won't be room for much blood.

And I have to really pinch it to remove it so I have no idea how the blood will stay in it and not all dribble out during the process!

Has anyone here had the same issue with the Mooncup? Did you find a way to get it to stay down? Or did you find an alternative brand of cup that worked better for your shape?

Just to add more TMI... I have to pinch and twist to break the seal, I can't put a finger in around the rim as the rim is way way up there and my fingers are not long enough to reach it. That's why I'm worried about the suction.

Mines rides high as well. Just bare down before you need to remove it and it should lower it enough to break the seal easily.

@chocoloatepeanuts Thanks for your reply. But the article I read about them causing prolapse said that its the bearing down that does it, so I'm a bit scared!

I haven't heard about prolapse but DD's dislodged her coil. (Pulled it down, but not out) It hadn't occurred to her that it might not be wise to use a moon cup with an IUD.

That’s interesting cos my cervix is really low when I’m on my period. I had the opposite problem in that the mooncup was barely in at all!

I don’t have periods anymore (coil) so not an issue anymore. Hope you find a solution!

Mine did this too. I didn't get on with it at all. Tried a saalt one instead and... problem solved! With the mooncup I found that no matter where it sat I could always feel it. The saalt one is a bit softer and feels totally different. I just forget it's there. Might be worth trying another brand?

Chocolatepeanuts · 05/04/2021 09:46

Oh I didn't realise that Confused i presumed it was pulling down without breaking the seal. Will follow for answers!

Mine sits really high and occasionally I struggle to get it out, but all in all I still highly rate it (and would never go back to other sanitary wear like tampax/towels etc).

I also didn’t like mooncup. So, second trying another brand.

Thanks everyone! I just went on the Saalt website @FreshFaceTime and did their quiz and it recommended the soft one. I'll see if I can get used to the mooncup before I shell out for another one but will definitely bear that in mind especially since you had the exact same problem!

I had to stop using mine because my cervix sat inside it and I once pinched it to break the seal not realising and nipped my cervix really hard. Never again. My cervix goes really low during my period though, only since having DD

@peachhouses ouch!!

I use a Nixit which is a disc. It sits behind the cervix and tucks up behind the pubic bone. No suction and it holds up to 70ml. I much prefer to a mooncup which became painful to remove on my heavy days.
