Stale cigarette smoke - how to remove

Feeling desperate and hope the wise ones of mumsnet can help.

I recently moved back into a house which I had rented out for a number of years. I noticed the main bedroom has a slight smell of stale smoke. Thankfully I wanted to replace the carpets anyway so thought that would fix it. Also painted the walls (but not the ceiling). The snell is still there.

Was thinking it’s probably the roller blinds. I want to try to wash these before replacing as they are a custom width and expensive. Is there any point of this or should I save my efforts? Any tips on how to wash them?

Moving on to the bigger problem. Tonight I had the heating on for a good few hours and now the snell of stake smoke is so overwhelming I can’t sleep Sad does this mean it’s in the radiators? Is this fixable?

Should I burn my house down and sleep in the shed?

Someone please help me!

I'm sorry, cigarette smoke is grim. It permeates soft furnishings and can leave an oily residue on paintwork that needs scrubbing off. You can mask it - neutradol do stand-alone pots specially for smoke or you can leave bowls of vinegar in the room which absorb it. We had to do this with a relative's house before selling it but it took weeks to shift and sensitive noses still noticed it, good luck.
