Dust coming from farm.

I live opposite a farm and the farmer is working in his fields. There's an incredible amount of dust coming down from the fields. I''ve never seen so much. The air is absolutely thick with it.

Does anyone knowledgeable know what it's from, just soil? or if it's likely to be harmful? I know the farmer has to do his job of course, just curious.

I doubt it's chemically harmful, but particles are very bad for the lungs. Shut the windows and try to avoid breathing it in. If you're that close, a heads up would have been nice though.

It’s probably because everything is so dry atm, no proper rain for a while. Loads of dust is our livery yard too.

Does it smell of anything?

What workmisnthe farmer doing? Can you see if they're spraying, ploughing etc?

DustOnTheWind · 04/04/2021 14:18

Thanks all. I'll keep my windows shut for the rest of the day and keep the dog in.

Another family member just returned and said he could barely see and it was coating his mouth and teeth so I don't want to be breathing it in, even if it isn't especially harmful.

I think he's ploughing though he's gone to the other side of the field now. Hopefully it'll abate soon. It looks like a sand storm.

Sorry, I missed that. There's no particular smell beyond the usual farm smells that we're used to.

It's getting even worse now, so the dog will have to forego her usual walks but I think we'll survive.

Thank you to all for your responses.
