What do you enjoy doing with your 8 year old boys?

I sometimes (often) feel like I don’t spend enough time with him. There are things that older DD and I do together, and at his age she really wanted to be read to, which he doesn’t. He doesn’t like sitting still long enough!
I’m not really expressing this very well! Activities like games, drawing etc last a few minutes - maybe that’s enough. I just don’t feel we ‘connect’ often.
He doesn’t seem to enjoy things (walks, meals etc) as a whole family. Prefers 1:1 time I suppose. In the winter we did a short night walk every day (started when we were looking for Christmas lights) and that was a nice thing to do together. I’ll try that again.

You mentioned the Switch - my nearly 7 year old loves it. He and his dad are spending hours making levels on Mario Maker at the moment. Then they ask me to play them and laugh at me!

I just like playing the old school 2d mario games, and he watches me...and helps me out when needed!

We all love lego in this house! I'm a collector of the Harry Potter sets. He sits and helps me build. Over lockdown we had the massive Hogwarts castle to keep us very busy!

Today we have had a lovely time cooking dinner together - I think he’s actually going to eat it too! Will definitely do this again rather than doing it on my own. He made up hilarious songs and we had fun!
Will try lots more of the ideas above too - I’m going to get him to teach me his games.
