Blackhead remover- do the sucky things work?

Deedeedocket · 03/04/2021 19:57

Dd has chronic stubborn blackheads, but very sensitive skin. I’ve tried helping her steam her face and extracting them with a blackhead stick thingy but they don’t come out.

I don’t want her to mess up and scratch her skin, but I’ve seen those blackhead suction things on Amazon. Do the work?

Or if not what is best thing to help get rid?

No no no no no no and a thousand more times no. I just ended up with literal love bites all over my face

LemonSwan · 03/04/2021 20:06

www.dermalogica.co.uk/products/daily-microfoliant?variant=36242187747481&currency=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=CjwKCAjwpKCDBhBPEiwAFgBzj6b_ZdzjxG3hOYrWVlH8puAxgd3bFMSTJnvS8OMp0HhOp9UeFEt4KBoCWvMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Lasts forever so you only need a small bottle.

Best thing for blackheads ever.

Daily is too much IMO. Once every 3 days or once a week when its under control is good.

LemonSwan · 03/04/2021 20:08

If you really want to push the boat out then the superfoliant but that is pricey

Any experience of the blackhead clearing fizz mask?

OP posts:
Cinderellashoes · 03/04/2021 20:18

Don’t use the sucker things
I had what looks like lovebites on my chin. It wasn’t a good look!!

The sticky pore strips are good. Have you tried those?

LemonSwan · 03/04/2021 20:19

Never tried it but Dermalogica is absolutely brilliant. Worth every penny so I would give it a go.

Whyarewehardofthinking · 03/04/2021 20:21

My 2 DDs (and me!) Have had great success with products from The Ordinary. Their website has a regime creator that helps you choose the products for your skin concern. Our house swears by the cleanser, salicylic acid face mask and I love their Buffet and moisturisers. Really good value at around £6 for a bottle and a tenner for the mask. Cleanser is a bit more expensive but the big one for £13.50 (if it ever comes back in stock) lasts 1 person at least 2 months.

are they blackheads or sebaceous filaments?

Does this change how you treat them?
TaraR2020 · 03/04/2021 20:28

I have one of those sucker things, I've used it very lightly on my nose occasionally and of helps to remove build up of grease, although no effect on on blackheads.

Like pp though, every dermatologist worth their salt would tell me to throw it into the biggest volcano I can find.

I wouldn't recommend buying one, even if you don't end up with love bite like marks, they're not worth the money.

For blackheads you need chemical exfoliation - take a look at products that contain salicylic acid. Your dd will need to use it consistently - nothing good for the skin is going to transform it over night.

BookShop · 03/04/2021 20:28

They do not work. Don’t waste your money on the sucky things.

QueenPaw · 03/04/2021 20:30

@Hamhockandmash yep!
Blackheads can be extracted, sebaceous filaments shouldn't be because they're well, natural skin
Some things help and reduce them like BHA, oil cleansing and tretinoin

peachhouses · 03/04/2021 20:39

Take her to a facialist who will extract them properly and then get her using salicylic acid regularly

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 03/04/2021 20:40

The sticky pore strips can work. Just wash the skin afterwards and the splash cold water to close up the pores again. (And don't look at the strip after you've pulled it off 🤢)

TaraR2020 · 03/04/2021 20:41

Pores physically can't open or close, btw, so cold water may feel soothing but nothing is going to make those babies close up.

Stripyhoglets1 · 03/04/2021 20:42

Looking at the strip is the best bit!

QueenPaw · 03/04/2021 20:48

Don't use the strips! It pulls everything out including stuff that should stay in there
The gunk that comes out is usually sebaceous filaments as the strips aren't strong enough to pull out a blackhead. Then the pore is left open

Bananaman123 · 03/04/2021 20:51

maybe post in style and beauty and someone can help. James Welsh just posted a video on these, dont do it basically. Check out him and Skincare with Hyram.

I would look at chemical exfoliation but im no skin expert. S and b will be able to help

SimonJT · 03/04/2021 20:55

My partners gets awful (so amazing) blackheads on his back, I use one of those metal things on his blackheads to get them out, I always make sure his back is moisturised everyday as it makes getting them out easier. This gives you a ‘clean slate’ after that you need maintenance to reduce their chance of coming back.

Everyones skin is different, my partner has oily skin that is sensitive. Everynight I wash his back with cera ve then use paulas choice salicylic acid, little bit of rosehip oil and cera ve cream. In the day time I wash it with the cera ve and just use a small amount of rosehip oil.

Bubbletiers · 03/04/2021 20:57

Go to boots (or order direct). Carbon Theory charcoal soap bar. It’s a miracle worker. £6 lasts ages.
They do a body bar too so make sure you get the face one. I convinced two people to try it recently and they said how amazing it has been.

Also read up on Caroline Hirons. Steaming could be making them worse!

DanNickBen · 03/04/2021 21:00

I use The Inkey List Salicylic Acid Cleanser. It’s worked very well for me. It really softens them and lightens the appearance a lot. It is a tad drying but I just make sure to always moisturise after (Rose Hip Oil then Shea Butter) and it’s no problem

Deedeedocket · 03/04/2021 21:01

Deffo blackheads. She is a little young to go to beautician 14, not sure you can go under 16.

dancemom · 03/04/2021 21:10

Don't use the vacuum or the sticky strips. You can get a blackhead remover tool for large ones and I'd look into skincare to prevent them.

But yy to ensuring they are blackheads and not sebaceous filaments.

Wowzel · 03/04/2021 21:16

Don't use the vacuum. I have no idea why I bought one but it is rubbish

PaperMonster · 03/04/2021 21:45

I used the Tropic green face mask on my nine year old as she had a couple of black heads, and it drew them out.
