What are your best fakeaway recipes? We spend too much on takeaways so trying to get alternate recipes, does anyone have any go to recipes? Thanks

I make lovely lamb doner kebabs - the recipe originally came from the Eat Well for Less programme, I think.

The slimming world sweet and sour sauce recipe is gorgeous.

There's also a lovely tikka masala recipe where you marinade chicken and peppers in fat free natural yoghurt and tikka spices then grill them. Once cooked put in a pan of tinned chopped tomatoes and the leftover marinade heat up and then take off the heat and add a bit more natural yoghurt. It's a family favourite here but I always add extra garam masala, turmeric and chilli as we like it hot!

I used the vegan Vivera kebab or shawarma pieces fried with peppers and have with houmous and flatbreads or rice.

Pinch of Nom have great ideas, although I tend to use the “full fat” version rather than their low-fat or lighter alternatives.

I like their KFC rice box and oven baked passanda

Hairy Bikers Korma recipe is amazing, better than a takeaway

All my fakeawsy attempts fail spectacularly.

Not a recipe but I always keep a tin of Tesco chicken tikka masala, garlic naan bread and mango chutney in stock. You can make a curry meal in 10 mins with some basmati rice. Do the naan bread in the toaster. No chopping or mess. Great emergency weekend lifesaver.

Look up takeaway secret and street food secret by Kenny McGovern on Amazon.

At least two of the kindle books are 99 p each this month. I have the first one and it's got several good recipes in.

Tom Kerridge's Southern Fried Chicken here

(I don't marinade overnight because I'm just not that organised)

I buy Katsu cubes and cook it up with fried onions and tofu. Add boiled rice. Ready in 15 and delicious!

The Hairy Dieters Eat For Life has some good recipes that really work every time.

Finfintytint · 03/04/2021 15:29

I use Dan Toombs’ book The Curry Guy. It’s really good.

Agree Pinch of Nom do some good ones eg Nandos, KFC

If you like Chinese food, Ziangs and SoupedUp recouped on recipes youtube are good

daisyducky · 03/04/2021 16:26

Have you tried simply cook. There are some great fakeaways on there. Crispy chilli beef and chicken korma come to mind. Recipes are easy and they give you the spices / sauces. All the ingredients you need are easy to get / store cupboard and there's not many ingredients. My pet hate are recipes that have loads of ingredients and ones you don't normally use. Taste delicious as everything so fresh!

Fieldsoftripe9 · 03/04/2021 18:32

Look at ziangs chicken chow mein on YouTube; I bought a bag of msg and it makes so much difference, really does taste like a takeaway chow mein!
